Ozzy my BFA is losing feathers!!! I know there are lots of posts about molting but since he is my first bird and I am not the most experienced I wanted to ask about him.
He is losing lots of downy feathers, there are dozens on the bottom of his cage every day when I clean it and he is also losing his green feathers. There are no bald spots so I am hoping its not plucking and its just a molt. I have only seen one pin feather BUT he doesnt really let me scratch him or look too closely at him yet so there could be more. He seems to be in his general 'sorta happy' mood and is eating fine and has finally started to play with different toys.
Does this sound like a molt? If so how long does it last? We are going from warm to cooler weather here (not cold, I live in Florida).
I have heard bathing helps but he will not let me bathe him. Twice I've tried to put him in the sink or bathtub with the faucet on low and he freaks. He also hates being sprayed so I havent tried it more than once. Occasionally he will jump in his water bowl and splash it all over him and all around his cage onto my carpet. Am I hurting him by not forcing him to bathe?
He is supposed to be eating low protein because of some liver issues so I cant up his protein to help his molt. Anything else I can do?
