I think only a musician can be that patient.
Breaking things down step by step and practicing over and over.

LOL, he is the patient one - Salty often gets tricks in 1 or 2 tries. That stacking the blocks trick, for example? He got that trick down pat in 2 tries.

I really enjoyed watching Salty do his tricks. Do you have to make sure Salty is hungry before performing? If he isn't hungry for treats will he still perform?

No, in fact he has his dinner around 7-7:30PM (chop and Nurtaberries) and we train at 8:45,PM, sharp.

Is his treat reward a regular part of his diet? Would Salty perform as asked if he didn't get his treat reward?
My budgie Rocky's favorite food is corn kernels. It would be hard to try to use them as a reward treat because it takes her quite a while to use her beak to extract the edible stuff from inside the shell. Too long to hand one to her for doing something I want her to do and continue. She also loves sunflower meat chips which are tiny enough for her to eat quickly. Do you think they would make a good training reward? What do you use with Salty?

I gotta get off my butt and start seeing what Kirby can learn to do. He’s certainly patient enough with me, haha.
