Has anyone built their own parrot cage?
I like the idea of building a new cage for my cockatiels but not sure how difficult it would be to get my hands on suitable materials in the UK

Hi there. TO make a cage that is safe, sturdy and will last, unless you have an inside source for the materials, its going to be more than what a commercially available cage. Frames cannot be made of wood, the bars or mesh cannot be just be galvanized wire mesh (zinc is toxic, being a heavy metal). SHeets of aluminum mesh are available, but expensive and shipping is pretty high too an something like that. Fully understand the allure of DIY, when cages are not cheap, but you want yur parrot to be safe right? We had a member last year who made a cage for his macaw out of plexiglass or Perspex, but man, he had to install all sorts of cooling and ventilation equipment in it. ANd cleaning up was a job he left to his housecleaner, so that gives you an idea on how much he spent on it.

Instead of making a cage you might make various perches and play stands and toys.
