I have a rectangular cage because I read repeatedly that this is the ideal shape for parrots. I was wondering if anyone knew why that was the case.

You get a better space to surface area ratio, and better space to foot print area ratio with a round cage.

I don't know about rectangular cages, but round cages are not good for parrots to be housed in.

I always heard that round cages are no good because birds like to sit in the corners. It makes them feel more secure.

Also there really is no end to a round cage. It just keeps going. Plus most of them are very small.

Thank you. This seems like a solid explination. I got Bob a rectangular cage, I just wanted to know why I was doing so.
