Hello! I’m a new bird owner. I simply love my sweet, sensitive, soon to be tame (hopefully!) little guy/gal.

Can somebody help me determine if this youngster is a male or female? I’ve read conflicting info on the web.

The first photo is from mid October and the following two are very recent.

Any other info you’d like to share would be greatly appreciated! I’m hand feeding and stepping up is going well in the cage. It allows me to move it on my finger between perches, to the cage entrance and close to my face. We’re slowly making progress. Every day is a little bit different. What a great little buddy is my budgie! :whiteblue:

Thank you, thank you!

I’m going for female. Like Laurasea said, the white/pale blue gives it away.

Hopefully this will help. Here is an image of both my male and female budgies when they were a few months old.
(Female) Sky is on the left
(Male) Valentine is on the right

Absolutely adorable! The markings and colors are very similar to one of my Budgies!

Thanks, everyone! I suspected she is female but read that the white around her nares does not necessarily mean she’s a she. She displays some characteristics of a male so I’ve been uncertain all along. The big box pet shop had little information about any of their birds. Her first molt seems to go slowly. I hope that’s not because she’s stressed or malnourished.
Some advise to use mirrors for solo birds and some do not, especially during taming. For Bobbie, she’s more confident with a mirror. She still shows interest in me. But she’s often quiet. That’s a little concerning to me, as my brother’s keet from childhood was quite verbal. But he- Waldo- was male so maybe that’s the difference. He was totally tame.
Bobbie sneezes after preening and often after eating. That’s normal, right? She does bob her tail a bit when nervous/afraid. Once calm, usually moments later, she breathes normally. I think she’s fine... I just wish she’d eat more of her veggies!
Beautiful budgies in the photos above, thanks for sharing.
Ijist- your gal looks like she could be Bobbie’s big sister! She’s so cute.
Happy Sunday y’all! May your day be peaceful with the sound pleasant warbles and birdie kisses (without “treats” please!)! ;-)
