Looks like a mitred conure to me.....where are you getting this bird that they don't know what it is ? ? ?

It's not a mutation, but a specie of its own.....

Actually, that conure is more closely related to a green cheek conure than a mitred conure, any day! ;) (notice red tail - common trait of many Pyrrhura conures - uncommon in Aratingas)

That's a young adult(?) rose crowned conure. A similar species is the hoffmans.

Not a very common species to be kept, and when I do see people who own these birds, they typically live in either Canada or the south part of the USA (i.e. Florida).

If the bird has blue trimmed flight feathers, I will accede to it being a rose-crowned conure.....

For comparison... my mitred conure... note, the body size is large and he has no red in his tail feathers. There's also no red in his stomach feathers (although *some* red headed birds may develop a red stomach, it's on a bird by bird case, not species)

I agree with you Monica after seeing the comparison.

Hiya just looked at other pictures appears the wings are blue trimmed and also I am in the uk.
The person im getting him got him from another person who thought he was a ring neck that person use to hit his beak etc. The current owner can handle him as he keeps flying at her face etc.

Ah, I rarely see anyone outside North America with these little jewels!

I would highly suggest to start looking into positive reinforcement now, so you'll know how to handle him, if you haven't done so already.
