I noticed over the last month that Sammy has not been finishing her bowl of food on a daily basis. She does always polish off her daily allotment of pecans though.

Should I be refilling her bowl of Zupreen pellet food daily or wait until she eats it all? Or clear it out every other day for freshness??? It is expensive food so I don't want to be wasteful... on the other hand I do want to make sure she is getting what she needs as far as nourishment.

She also eats fruits when I have them as well as veggies.

I'd love some feedback :) :blue1:

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
I don't throw it away unless it is contaminated. Then I throw everything away.

There's usually dry food left in the bowl, and they'll eat the treats first. I basically just take a spoon and get all the crumbs out, and then refill it with the new stuff mixed in with the old. (The old stuff was from YESTERDAY anyway. It's not like it's gone bad.)

I have a dry food bowl, and a fresh food bowl to keep the dry stuff from getting contaminated. The fresh food bowl seems to be self emptying around here. What ever they don't eat, gets tossed to the floor or the cage grate by the bird... usually the floor.

Thank god for shop vacs and steam cleaners!

Oh goodness, I agree about the lack of clean house from now until forever LOL

But that feedback helps so much! I noticed when I switched things around today that she picks out her favorite pieces and leaves only one or two types of pellet behind. What a picky smartypants :blue1:

I do the same with my bng I go through her bowl daily and just take out empty shells and then just add half a scoop of new mix. She's pretty good though at eating everything.

Here lately when she doesn't get her way, she has been sloshing the food all out of bowl... so much for being conservative :p

Feed only as much pelleted food you think the bird will eat. Check throughout the day the bowl. My bird gets very vocal when he wants to be fed. Lol.

I put a spoonful or so in Doodles dry dish and make sure it not wet or ickie if some of her fresh stuff gets mixed in by her..

Shes also good at pitching stuff overboard!! I vacuum her tossings that my dog Smokey don't eat everyday! Ya outta see the looks I get when Smokey poops seeds!
