Rosie has been doing so amazing I just had to share. Her legs have so much strength and everything about her is improving.

If you didn't know already Rosie is a rescue, her last owners where giving her away in front of a pet store, the lady said her husband was going to kill her. She had a broken leg, a small piece of her upper mandible was missing, and she was in a budgie cage. :( My friends rescued her, but gave her sun flower seeds as her staple diet and rather then become obese she was very skinny. She stayed with them for 4 years and learned that she didn't need to fear people anymore but didn't get very much physical attention and had no toys.

She's a completely different bird now. Before she never played with toys, didn't know how to step up and when placed on your hand had to cling to your shirt with her beak to keep from falling off. The poor thing had such weak legs and feet and it took me close to 6 months for her leg strength to return. Her right leg still causes her some problems since it was never set, but it has improved in mobility and now she just walks a little slower and stands funny on that leg but few people notice.

Here she is in early 2009, the open bands on her legs are too tight and her foot is a little swollen.

Here's what she looked like when I got her in august, she has no feather dust, and all her feathers are yellow tinted.

And her she is now, she's molted out a lot of feathers an they are looking better and better. Her dark pink is also a much more vibrant color then before. It's kinda funny, every time she gets a gray feather I'm like "wow, they look so gray!" then she gets a newer feather and I realize it was still slightly brown. But finally I think they are truly gray, in the below photo you can still see a few brown feathers in the ray but they aren't as noticeable. Most of her secondary feathers haven't been molted yet and they so they are still very yellow.

Thankyou so much everyone, I'm so proud of how she is today :)

She has a very deep pink I haven't seen before. She is a very pretty girl.
I've seen a few photos of dark galahs, although it seems very few people know about them and they are not common. Usually when I see photos of them they are dark pink but don't tend to be as dark gray as Rosie, although I've only seen about 10 other dark galahs in my internet search and they aren't listed on any official galah website that I know of which is kinda frustrating to me since I want to know where they are from lol. One breeder who used to have a pair said they are a natural occurring morph while another says they have been breed for the color.

Here's a photo of Rosie with a normal Galah, the difference is so striking. Also for some reason the lighting made her look stark red instead of dark pink. Also while most Galahs average around 14" Rosie is only 13"

She is so gorgeous! I'm so glad that you rescued her and gave her such a beautiful home. :)

She looks like she could be a Western Australian sub-species of the Galah (cacatua roseicapilla assimilis), they usually have a very deep pink body and pink crests as well as rosey cheeks.
