So, which cage is better?

My price range for a cage is $150 or less. I'm having my nephew build me a play stand as well but I still want little bird to be comfortable in his or her cage. I've found two that I like but I can't decide between them.

Aviantelligence Playtop Bird Cage - Bird.com -- I love the look of this one. There's plenty of room for toys in there and but its not so huge I can't easily manage it. The bar spacing is 1 inch though and I'm looking at either a conure (probably a black cap or a green cheek) or a chattering lory. The only review says its perfect for an amazon.

Aviantelligence Leisure Lounge Bird Cage - Bird.com -- This one has smaller bar spacing but its also a smaller cage. Not as much room for toys but it does have a play top and its less than $100 so I could go bigger on the play stand I'm having built.

Opinions? Advice? Suggestions?

I'm taking it slow this time so no rush. I just want to do it right from the start.

1 inch isn't good for any bird the size of a conure/lory. Far to big, they'd wind up getting threw them and possibly hurting themselves.

The second cage is fine, and the size is good. I had a website somewhere that should you the minimum to a conure(that all i've researched, not to sure on lory) cage, but the dimensions on the 2nd cage seem fine.

It all depends on the parrot. My ringneck has one inch bar spacing, and he's just fine.

Sprite the cinnamon green cheek conure.
I was going to get the first one for my tiel but the bar spacing is too big so I am planning on getting the leisure lounge one.
Keep in mind that the leisure lounge cage is actually 133.70 because the shipping costs.

Ringnecks reach to about 16 inchs, compared to a conures 12 inch and a lory, I believe a 1 inch would still be fine with Ringnecks but not at all for a conure/lory in my opinion. To much of a hazard.

I'm going to go with the smaller cage and just have a really nice play stand. I don't want to run the risk of any unhappy accidents.

I used to have this beautiful flight cage that was 36"H (not including the base), 24"D and 40"W but alas, it is no more. Drat drat drat. My Mom kept finches in it once upon a time but we sold it to someone who wanted to keep mice. They had all sorts of ladders and platforms in it. It was really cute.

16 inches and over half of that is tail. Chico is much more slender in body then say a sun conure. A GGC is about the same size as his body, maybe a little shorter.

I have the second cage, it's a great cage and is plenty big enough for a conure.

My local CL has a sun conure with everything for $150 but I wanted a baby so I haven't responded to that listing. I really wanted to start off with a baby and new toys and stuff. I'm not really in a hurry so I figured I could take my time and have everything set up just right.

Sounds like what happened with Hannibal when I got him. His owner just didn't have time for him after she had her baby.

Sometimes... if you really look... you might find what you are looking for on craigslist. It might not be a baby, but a young parrot shouldn't have to many issues.

Check ebay. There are several good cages there for really cheap, and most have free shipping.

check WALMART! holy fuzz! lol they have a LOT of bird cages. Don't go for something super flashy if you're focused on keeping a budget. You can save that money to decorate the inside! :)

Andrea, you crack me up. Holy fuzz? lol

I think I'm going to go with a sun conure. I really wanted a lory but unless one drops into my lap, they're too far out of budget right now.

Atwee, the ebay link goes to Pioneer Learning Center for some reason. I'll try to google it.

Woot woot to the Sun Conure club.

From the your local CL listing, that bird sounds friendly and even though it not a baby seem to still be a nice bird. Maybe just inquire about it for a little and see how the meeting goes? You never know

I've got things I want to do in my home before I try and introduce another pet. I also can't really shell out $150 right now. I'm making plans at this point and I'll probably start actually acting on them in the next month or so.

I'm also just not ready to shell out $150 right now. I could use the money I got for Hannibal but I wanted to give myself another month and make sure I'm really financially stable again before I take on another family member.
