Ok, so the paranoid person that I am needs to make sure I'm feeding my baby properly:). So far she's on the same diet as Coco my eclectus:
Morning: bowl of fresh fruit, pellets
Afternoon: 2 nutri berries
Dinner: mix of grains and veggies or chop
* pellets (Harrison's) are in cage all day*

I gave them both a few nuts on Sunday. I also use nuts in the foraging toys.

Any input would be appreciated:).

All my babies get a wide variety of foods. Let me see if I can dig up some of the recipes I feed them. :)

This is what my fids get on a daily basis
It's the MSBS parrot mix, and I also add several Goldenfeast mixes and additional pellets

These nuts are for my Macs

And fresh fruits and veggies

Choy, Sugar Snap Peas, Red Peppers, Jalapenos, Carrot, Zucchini, Broccoli, Celery, Plum & Peach.

Please don't ask me the nutritional values, as I have absolutely NO clue. :32:

Ripley had a hard time just “watching”.

Haha! Thanks for all the info. Do the Macs get nuts everyday? I'm planning on making birdie bread this week. I have a batch of food that I've frozen into ice cubes that contains, amaranth, quinoa, brown rice, pearl barley, couscous, wheat berries. Oatmeal, flaxseed to which I added applesauce, raisins and cinnamon. Another has some spices, whole wheat spaghetti, grains, dries fruits and veggies and I add a little curry to it. These are usually their dinner:)

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
Is your macaw a baby? If so she needs extra fat in her diets in the way of the nuts. Wendy is feeding the proper amount of nuts to her macaw, you should give them around 8 nuts a day for the adults and up the amount for the babies.

Thanks for the info! Yes my girl is 4 months old. I thought I'd read somewhere that they need more fat, but wasn't positive. I will add the nuts daily in that case. Do you always feed the nuts separate? I've added walnuts to their dinner mix a few times now and they seemed to like it :) There are so many recipes out there to try! haha Thanks again for chiming in...I get a little nervous when I'm not positive I'm doing the right thing. LOL

They do, don't they? That's the FIRST thing Niko goes for each and every day....and then he gives me the sad eyes when he's done with them, telling me "yum yum" in his SWEETEST voice, wanting me to refill that thing. :D

I have one umbrella cockatoo. A female 3 years old named Mina.
JerseyWendy I think I saw pine nuts in their shell. I just read an article about them now causing aspergillosis just as bad as peanuts. Have you heard anything like this? I've been picking them out of Mina's food but they are a favorite of hers.

 No, I haven't. That is so scary!! Mine haven't had pinenuts in over a month because MSBS was out the last time I placed an order, and I don't feel like making a 70 mile round trip JUST to get pine nuts.

Mine love their pine nuts, too, WITH a passion that is.

I've been substituting with pistachios, which are their second favorite nuts.

WHY do they have to have such expensive taste? :54:

Minamommy, please, if it's not too much trouble, could you find that article and post it??? Even in a separate thread, as it's important for everyone to know of the dangers.

Please keep in mind that any fruits or veggies that are dried have gotten that way because sulpher was used on it and that stuff is not safe being fed to our babies. Even if you read the label and it does not list that stuff on it, the company is not required to list any ingredients on a product they received with it on/in it already. I learned this after talking to a manager there at Goldenfiest and so that type (meaning anything dried) is not used in this house.

Yes, it is very convenient to use but Fresh is Always Best.
