Hi All,

My New pet baby Alexandrine[3 month old] is not making sound. I hear him only once, when i gave him a tomato.

Also he is not drinking water, anyways i am putting a bowl in his cage.

And all the time he is feeling to have food.. if i wont give him he start to go here n there in his cage. He is not connecting with me. Is this a normal behavior.

How can i start to make conversation with him.

FYI- I got it from a shop last week only.

Regards,
Sujit:green:

i'm not the most experienced person here by any means, but not drinking is usually a sign of an underlying issue, and I would urge getting your little guy to a vet as soon as possible for a check-up. And don't feel bad that he doesn't seem to be bonding with you yet, a week isn't long for a bird, and it takes time to build up trust with each other. If he is sick, that could also certainly be effecting things. I know when I feel bad I don't exactly want to be friendly with others. I hope he starts feeling better soon, and don't give up hope, time love and patience and i'm sure you two will be best friends before you know it!

Thnks Edwin for your valuable inputs. I have also checked many open forums, and most of them are informing that Alex will not hve that much water. they can get it from fruits/veggi.

Also can you advise how i can start him to fed water.

however i will surely take him to Vet so that i can get his checkup reports.

Any suggestions for vocal issues. I have show him below linked video and he started replying to this with similar sound. and also made same while i have given him a piece of tomato for the first time. I belive this voice is for excitement. but not sure. can you please checck the video and let me know your thoughts on this.

Hello just to check you are up to date with dietary requirements for your bird so just in case I enclose a link for you to have a look at.

Diet for Alexandrine Parrots | eHow

It is important that birds receive the correct diet to remain healthy.
Are you making clean, fresh water available. I read that they like to bathe.

Idk, hopefully a more experienced owner will comment soon. I just wonder if he was fully weaned when you got him. Congrats on your new baby.

I hope I am wrong but that sound he's making sounds like "I'm a hungry baby bird" noise. So I also wonder about whether he's fully weaned, but I am not an expert so I also hope someone that know's better see's this topic.

As for water?
Continue to provide clean water, even if you don't see him drink it.
Try offering him some cooked broccoli (or any cooked/soft vegetable you have), split it is 2 pieces, if you have some natural fruit juice then dip one of the bits of veg you have in the juice. Then offer the juice covered veg to your bird, if he doesn't take to it then eat the other piece of veg you split off in front of your bird. He's a young bird and should be very curious. He may not take it straight away but work on it slowly with him.
This will help get him to eat veg as well as get some energy and fluids into him with the juice.
Besides taking him to a vet this is all I can suggest for now. Goodluck

I am in no way experienced but I can relate to your situation coz I was exactly in the same situation a year ago. Plumsmum has given you an excellent link. If your baby alex is not eating on his own you can puree his food and offer it to him warm (not hot not cold but warm). What worked for me was I just made a list of what was safe for Rio , cooked till soft and pureed it in the same water and fed it using a bent spoon when it was warm (NOT HOT). Hopefully an experienced forum member will help you out.

As for water, as Rio's food was pureed he got his water from his food itself or I used to offer him clean water in the same bent spoon. As for weaning your baby alex you can search my first post , I received some excellent and valuable advice regarding weaning.
