I wanted to get a cargo net but the prices seem crazy for bird nets. Has anyone made their own? I gave it a try but my knots were slipping and that didnt seem safe. Or is there a website that has them at a decent price?

Making a net using beads isn't too difficult. Good price for beads is Hobby Lobby, watch for sales. Beads go half price every couple months! Als you get a 20% off with a sign up, each week.
Instead of beads, look at tie wraps, cable ties. They come in multiple colors. Lows, hobby lobby.
A simple jig to hold the rope in place would be fantastic and make it really easy to build the net. Something like a large pegboard. Just big enough for say, 4 rows at a time.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
I had mine custom made at Pacific Fibre and Rope company. They are more reasonable than bird stores, and they do any size you want to fit.

I made my own using knots and it was hard to figure out a way to keep them safe and secure. Next one I make I am planning on using beads instead of knotts. I think it looks cuter and will be easier as well as use a WHOLE LOT LESS rope! I was shocked how small my net was because all the rope went to knots haha lesson learned.

I really like this idea, but every time I called these guys I got no answer.....maybe they were on vacation that week?

I ended up building my own, and to be honest ended up spending just a bit under what I could have bought one from them for. I wouldn't make another DIY, I'd just keep calling until I finally got someone..

That being said, my Loki absolutely LOVES his cargo net!

Yeah, cargo nets are great! Birds become very active when they have a cargo net to play on.

I've been using them for over 15 years. I've got two that are 8 ft by 6 ft, and I've got a smaller one for Sally's playstand 2 ft by 4 ft, and I've got a 4 ft by 4 ft on the living room coffee table playstand I made.

I used to make custom made parrot playstands as a sideline, and I always incorporated cargo nets into them. Pacific Fibre and Rope Company was my supplier at the time. They're quite reasonable for a high quality product. And I couldn't make my own for less... and without the time consuming aspect as well.

Is there a big difference between cotton and sisal rope?

HUGE difference in price. Cotton is a lot more expensive than sisal.

I was just curious. Most everywhere says use sisal. I just don't have it locally and have plenty of new, unused cotton rope.

Home Depot or Loews, Hobby and craft stores too.

I live in a very rural area. Nearest large box store like Lowes or HD is over 25 miles one way. The little $$$ I'd save in rope I'd lose in fuel. Next time I'm in one of those stores I'll try to remember to look for some tho.

Here is an alternative....I had a tough time finding 3/4" sisal rope in manageable lengths...

I found here... Search results for: 'sisal'

One note, if you are planning on doing yourself, expect sore hands and to use much more rope that you think you will use....the knots take a lot of rope.
