Hey guys!!
About two days ago I purchased a 7-8 week old sun conure. Very cute but he’s not really playful yet...he’s mostly sleeping all of the time or sitting on my shoulder doing nothing.
My bird is always sleeping is this normal?
The bird also never really eats himself, he tries to but then he cant break through the seeds. However I don’t know if this is just him being a baby and wanting to be hand fed because my friend said he has a hard bite.
I have him on two feeds a day yet he’s always bobbing his head and chirping (he does that when he’s hungry) and his crop (stomach) is flat and empty.
I don’t want to get him used to the idea of hand feeding and I’m scared if I over feed him he’ll die. Then I don’t want to underfed him because he may also die.
Also I don’t really see him drinking water, should I be concerned ?
Could someone help a stressed bird mum here šŸ˜…šŸ˜…:orange:

Oh no, do you think he is unweaned?;?!?!?!? That can be very dangerous, do you hav hand feeding formula?
Grind up some pellets add some scrambled eggs and oatmeal, blend it up, see if you can finger feed it to him, make sure is very warm to the touch.
Click a go advanced button under text box and show us a picture of your baby.
Edit!!! You must feed him as much as he wants on a feeding you can not force wean! You must wean by abundance..
If he begs he is hungry!!! This is very dangerous getting an unweaned baby!!!

His moth is always opened too should I be worried!!?? Also can he die from being over fed??
It’s not letting me post s photo it’s saying enter URL?

Yes! Did you read the link on unweaned babies?
He needs to go to an avain vet tomorrow! Babies go down hill quickly, he could hsv pneumonia, or crop infection.....you've got to feed him every few hours, at the right temp, keep him warm....please show a picture
Scroll down once you open the go advanced, there is a button that says manage your attachment use that, upload, close the window on attachment then post

That us a very young baby. Who sold you an unweaned baby?
You must read the link k I gave you, if it was me this is an emergency and I would take to avain vet specialist tomorrow

Thank you so much for your help!! just called the vet up - they said they are available thursday but it is better than nothing right?!

If you’re unable to get to the vet for several more days you could seek help from the breeder or whoever sold this unweaned bird to you. This is exactly why baby birds should never be sold so young. Please also call the vet to see if they can waitlist you in case someone else cancels. I hope your little one will be ok!
