Hey everyone!
Just wanted to say "thank you" for all the nice advice you have given me when my lorikeet was acting up and biting
It's not completely disappeared, I think, (can't say for certain because we usually "fight" every other week or so) but on a happy note: him and I have learned to read each other much better. When he starts bobbing his head and pinning his eyes, I can now calmly say "Hey buddy, what's up?" and just respond sweetly to him until he calms down. This is quite the contrast, since at first I froze up, terrified he'd bite me in the face, and would beg my boyfriend to get him off of me.
As of three days ago, he even likes to wrestle me, something that only Erik (bf) was allowed to do previously. This tells me that he has become comfortable with me and that he knows I will not respond scared or angry when he plays a little roo roughly. (Not that I would yell at him for it or anything, I was just afraid he'd suddenly change to 'real anger' and bite my face again so I didn't encourage his wrestling and would usually put him back in his cage if he became a little too excited).
So thank you all for your sweet advice and you were right: it just takes time to understand a bird
It can't be done in a week or a month. It's taken me more than half a year to feel at ease with him when he's hyperactive and flapping about, and I still have much to learn about my beautiful birdy.
For anyone interested, I keep an Instagram with pretty pictures of him, @lorikeetlove. He's real beautiful ^_^
Much love! Thank you!
