Just this week when Merlin was inside Luna's cage Luna groomed Merlin's face for about 15 seconds. This is the first time they have touched.

I am still unsure of Merlin's behavior though:confused:. Sometimes he acts crazy, lunging at nothing. He acts like he is attacking something only he can see.

Is this normal behavior for a young amazon parrot?

Oh yeah!! When my Sam, BFA, was young he would attack his own wings. He would put his wings up, and look back and bite them, like he didn't know they were his. If he got a new toy, it was full attack mode until he got used to it. That's how he got to say "I'm a crazy bird"!!!

I know my YNA Bingo even though he is more than 30 years old will bite his own leg when he is playing with a toy.

I have never had a Amazon this young before. When Merlin acts up (attacking things that aren't there) it makes Luna think he is or is going to attack her. It's making it harder for them to become friends.

Amy still bites his own leg when playing. And I do recall when he was young he'd grab at a toy and fling it the run after it all poofy and dive-bomb at whatever it was..I miss watching that :o

Happy Valentines day.

Yes the mock fighting thing is very common to young amazons. I think you said the older bird was preening the younger one. That's a good sign.
