I wanted advice on african grey breeding. I have paired up an african grey for about 6m - 12m. When they were introduced male was a little aggressive towards the female but not overally aggressive. Over time, they started to bond and male started to feed the hen and they started using the box. It got to the point where they were continuously using the box and the hen was staying in the box.
They started to mate, the male was threading the hen appropriately and i believe they used to mate for approximately 8-10minutes. Eventually hen laid three eggs. Few two of the eggs broke and one was infertile. I looked at the eggs prior to been broken and they were all infertile. I do know the history of the male as it was brought from the person who use to breed and produce youngsters. However, the hen was not a proven egg layer and was kept in a aviary for pleasure purposes.
I went on a holiday after this and when I came back I thought ill give them a try again. Since then nothing and one day the hen became ill and i thought i was going to lose her. I brought her in house and manage to save her. She was in the house for 6 weeks and reintroduced to her mate. Within the first day, they were feeding each other and male was trying to mate and the hen started to feed the male as well. However that lasted about a day. Since then, the wait looks lazy and are sleeping the most of the day.
Dietary wise, they are on veg in the morning and seeds at night. They are vocal and they climb around the cage. I was under the impression are they poorly is something going on? however they are vocal and very engaging when feeding them.
For some strange reason the male does dropping in the box, I closed the box for a couple of months and left him outside to break the cycle. That has not worked.
Am I doing something wrong? whats going on? any thoughts from an experienced person would help or similarly has someone been through this stage..
