Alex The Kakariki non avian vet diagnosis Gout

Hello Im based In cheshire uk I have a female kakariki called alex who I love dearly she lost her partner 2yrs ago I couldnt save him despite going to an avian vet in manchester , Anyway I took her to a local non avian vet firstly because her claws needed trimming she was fine but two days later was having trouble perching and ended up in the bottom of her house The vet gave me Melacam to put on her food and drops in her water that said trying to give her this via a syringe was a disaster , anyway I sopped giving her parrot number 1 mix johnson and jeff , and switched to fruit and veg strawberry rasberry cherries melon mango anything shes feeding sleeping a lot ive not seen her drinking much hence giving her stuff with high water content , Ive been told that theres not much hope for her so im doing my best to keep her comfortable on a pillowcase no perches cleaning her beak with cotton buds and cuddling her which she seems appreciative of shes very alert so despite suggestions to put her down or wring her neck as others have unkindly suggested I thought Id join here and ask fellow bird owners are there any natural things I can use to help her I really love this little bird Im a pensioner so im on uk pension only Ive gone without food for myself making do with sardines and cheap snacks in fact Im going to go get her some melon today If I can get her through to next august 5th Ill hop in a cab and take her to two avian vets one in northwich the other is her regualar avian vet manchester Ive bought a portable parrot travel backpack which has vents she can see out and is a lot easier than her full size parrot house so Im trying my best to do whats right for my little girl . Ive 5 cockatiels so Im a bird fan as you can guess can anyone help useful tips Alex so wants to survive shes fighting god love her thanks

Welcome to the forums, @nige, but I'm sorry to hear your sweet Alex is suffering from gout. I had a budgie many (many!) years ago who had it, thankfully only a mild case and his avian vet was able to sort it for us. Unfortunately I don't have any particular advice for you, but I know it can be rather tricky and difficult to treat so hopefully others here might be able to help. In the meantime, just in case you want to try a different avian vet to get a second opinion, here's our worldwide list of bird specialists. I know they can be difficult to come by sometimes, my own wonderful avian vet of some 30 years standing retired recently and the new guy is good but, you know, it's just not the same!
