Amazon's ranked 2nd

Our Hahn's only says a few things really, our GW's don't talk at all yet other than ReaRea who only says "ReaRea". Now the YNA's pick up stuff quick & they're barely a year old, I'm pretty sure they'll have a good vocabulary. We ran across this on the web about a month ago & the YNA's almost have it down pat.

Think ill be teaching my bf to talk while clicker training her and guess what wenz i have spent a fortune on toys for her today lol and i haven't even got her yet but best to be prepared i always say :)

Thats exactly what I did, before Codie came home! I had the Cage all set up with toys and a Playstand with lots of Foot Toys! You will find by just talking to her all the time, she will take everything in and then one day, when you least expect it , she will start to say what she has heard:)

I haven't got the cage yet ill be getting that a few days before i bring her home but she has loads of toys already and i can't wait till she learns to talk aswell lol :)

Most amazons I know do tend to talk a lot, although it includes a lot of chattery/purring ish sounds mixed in as we'll with being sing-songy.

I also feel lesser citron cockatoos are good talkers as I knew one that was a chatterbox and a goffin/citron hybrid that also chats it up a lot.

Most macaws seem to know quite a few words and I knew a Greenwing that was constantly surprising me with his extensive vocabulary.

Im curious where the red bellies fall on the list? Mango was just a year in March but he speaks so clearly. He also has a really impressive vocabulary. He actually sounds like a person talking. I didnt think about talking ability when we got him, but Ive been really impressed.

Most articles I have read put greys, budgies, quakers, double yellow headed amazons, and eclectus as the best talkers with greys and budgies at the top.

I believe it was a budgie named puck with a vocab of 1700 words that holds the record as of now.

I gathered from everything I've read so far that African Greys are able to use the words in context.....like "oooops" when they stumble. Also they are getting the human and other sounds to the perfection in mimicking it.
As an example... I was volunteering in the sanctuary when I heard someone hammering nails (metal over metal sound). I went to check what that was all about just to see a CAG sitting in his cage and making this sound. I can even tell you how real it was, you had to hear this yourself. Poor CAG had his owner working on construction sites or something.....:)
Amazons are far much better singers. They mimic sounds very close to the original but not as close as African Greys.
I personally think their singing ability plus not so bad talking ability together could easily win over African Greys...:)
