In general, female budgies are "beakier" than males. They chew on and destroy things more, and this beakiness seems to carry over to biting hands when they don't want to be touched. If I try to hold any female budgie I've ever had with my hand wrapped around her body I get bitten pretty hard regardless of how tame she is. My males either don't bite or just nibble a bit.

Aside from this, female budgies can make wonderful pets. I love their independence. Males can be too socially needy but the girls seem to be able to entertain themselves well when they're alone. I spend a lot of time watching the social behavior of my small free flying flock of 12, six males and six females, ranging from human tolerant to human bonded like Rocky. Except for Rocky and her boyfriend Beau, the females pay little attention to each other and only pay slightly more attention to the males. The girls mind their own business. They hang out where they want, fly around, sample the cage-top buffet, chew on toys, and toss objects off the cage. The boys interact with each other much more and try to flirt with the girls, but the girls don't respond much unless they're very hormonal.

I would NOT get Pilot a budgie friend. If you got a male you may have to deal with unwanted breeding. If you got another female, Pilot may either ignore or fight with her. Look back and read your earliest posts about Pilot when you first got her- you've come so far!

The other amazing, beautiful female budgie we see a lot of on PF is Sushi. She's also very photogenic, winning POTM at least once.

Pilot sounds like a treat. I enjoy reading about feathered kids in action. The personality, quirks, likes, dislikes and the mischief makers are so much fun to read.

Yayy!! Wittle feet wittle feet. Wittle wittle little feet!! Official entry💚💛💙🤎❤️💜

Pilot sounds a lot like my Rocky. She's almost three years old now and the first budgie I hand raised. She's very attached to us, treats us as flock members, greets us and perches all over us (and our phones), but she hates our hands. She won't perch on a hand and we can't touch her and I doubt this will ever change.

If Pilot seeks out your company and uses your body as her own personal perch, guess what? You have won her over and that's a huge accomplishment with a previously untamed budgie! I didn't have to win over Rocky because I was her Mama, but you had to convince Pilot that you were her best friend. As time goes by your bond with Pilot will only deepen.
As an only child budgie, she may very well learn to talk, too! It would be more likely if she was a male, but females can talk, too. Some people think male budgies make better pets than females and I used to believe that myself because females seenþi
Pilot will perch on my hand if the shirt is over it, other than that she stays on my shoulder, head, neck, or chest.
