Knuckles: Sun conure with messed up foot

Sarge AKA turd burd: senegal parrot
The bird store we got our first two conures (the first one dying due to heart defect) has a weaning senegal parrot on reserve for us. The senegal is kept in another room with different parrots to separate it from the available stock. Every day or every few days we've been going there to interact with the senegal to get it used to us. As of recently, the senegal has been biting some of us. This isn't a bite like a little love bite or preening bite my conure does. This is an angry trying to hurt bite. Now the baby is still weaning and is starting to take solid food. Could the baby senegal be hungry from not having formula? Also, the senegal is housed in a cage next to a conure that reacts aggressive to our presence. Is it possible that the senegal is imitating the behavior? Any help will be appreciated :)

Could it be that now that the bird store people know that your bird is 'sold', they're no longer trying to make him as freindly as possible in the hope of selling him? They may just be feeding him & not spending any time handling?

I don't believe a baby bird, not yet weaned, will bite in anger or to hurt... It will bite in self defense... All babies will, if they feel threatened.

If you think he's imitating the conure, could you put a piece of cardboard between the cages...

Like Coral said, maybe he doesn't really get handled anymore, but just tending to feeds and cleaning, should enough for a baby for a few days...

How old is he?

You aint seen nothin yet. A Senegals personality is sketchy at best. One minute they can be the sweetest thing you have ever seen and the very next minute it seems they want to rip your arm off and beat you with it. I refer to Senegal parrots as the Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde of the parrot world for this very reason.

So if your still insistant upon getting a Senegal, be prepared for this type of behavior. They also get very jealous and will bite out of jealousy.

Billy is 9 and he still as temper tantrums, for no reason at all he will try to bite my hand when I'm offering a treat, he will even take the treat and throw it at me... but he's worth it.
