Hi again all!

I am finally able to get my Green Cheek Conure! She will be named my precious little "Noellah" but before then Ive been working like crazy to make sure my living space is as safe as can be! Ive already removed the few toxic/dangerous things found HERE and HERE from my home, and are now focusing on being super careful in my room/at my desk where she will spend a good half of her time with me. Im covering anything she could get tangled or stuck in, and cleaning it up well. While tidying up my computer cables for my desktop, i was thinking how birds are chewers, and are wondering if any of you have any clever ideas on how to protect the cables from the beaks of fury. I currently just tied them all together with cable ties, and tucked them as away as possible. Would this be enough? Im mainly concerned with the cables coming from my mouse, keyboard, headphones, and other peripherals.

Also, What are some common desktop things you can think that would be an issue? I keep my glasses (in their case), a lava lamp, a few Pop! Vinyls, and generally blocky large things like small boxes and cans/bottles from drinks.

Birds will get into anything they can if you allow them to.

They should be out with supervision anyway and not just left to their own devices. Mainly the favourites are cable, mouse mats, keyboard keys, chucking anything that takes their fancy off the desk, oh and chewing the desk if given half a chance! Supervise!

Don't forget the mouse itself! Even worse with a mechanical style keyboard as those make noise when the keys are pressed! It becomes the most fun game ever then

You might be going a bit overboard. The main thing you need to do is.. (just like u have a 2 year old).. SUPERVISE!!! Don't leave the critters out and alone cuz sho nuff... leave them unattended they will find something to get in to that can hurt em. Both my birds are free to roam when Im home and Cookie has been known to try and chew a lamp cord. Stopped that by putting some knotted twine and piece of pine wood on the end table where the lamp is. Also both my birdies know what no means.... and if I see em about to get in to something dangerous I just give them a stern no. (yep.. just like a kid)..

a mouse cable or USB cable is only 5 volts tops....I agree supervise....It's the power cables you need to watch but not for nothing my bird hasn't found them interesting in the slightest. I lean towards notasdumbasilook.

yes try to find ways to hide cables and such. I got a cable store box off Amazon for £15. Essentially a plastic tub with a removable lid and vents (for heat) then some sliths cut out to allow cables to go through. All the excess cabling goes into there and is hidden, then any other wires I used a bit of tape to stick to whatever needs to hide the wires. you wouldn't even know the wires were there. Of course they still need supervising, they will find the one thing bad for them and decide it's their favourite thing

Also make sure you have armor on your cell phone, tablet, laptop, and or anything you are paying more attention to than your critter at the time. Mine is terribly jealous of my tablet and will attack any school books if she is out when I am doing homework.
