"Apple" Yellow-sided Green Cheeck Conure
My little guy LOVES to chew and pull on my jewelry! I took out 22 peices of jewelry that were in my ears because Apple would not stop biting and tugging on them. I still do have 2 in each... I have extra loops laying around and atthe moment he is chewing and playing with one of them. There is no way he can swallow them since they are MUCH bigger than his beak and have no balls on them to swallow. Is it okay to let him play with them? I don't see a problem with it but just wanted to make sure.

as long as there stainless steel and don't have any bits he can break off

but personally i'd get him something thats his, or his gonna want ALL your rings etc lol

Lol! I'll be sure and pick one out that is his. I just want him to be able to play with one since he is so attracted to them. Every time he sees my loops he goes crazy wanting to get a hold of them so maybe now since he'll have one of his own he'll loose a bit of interest in mine. They are surgical steel and it's pretty impossible for him to break off a peice. Hmmm... Now to see which of my MANY extras he can have. Lol! Thank you!

I'd re-sterilize them again too before I gave them to him, just in case. If they weren't so expensive, I'd say buy him a pair of at least 00 hollow plugs (steel of course), and maybe put some peanut butter or a little treat in there to keep him busy. Almost like a kong but for birds instead of dogs.

lol nut will chew anything on my man cos he use to let her chew at his buttons and zips, now he can't stop her

i've always told nut off for chewing on my stuff, so even though i know she wants to get her beak around my jade necklace, she will sit lookin at it, an is content with getting a sly nibble in lol

so i think setting ground rules early is always good lol

oh i here's a thought, you could link them rings into a chain /charm thing lol his like nut see's bling and they lay claim!

That's a good idea! I have a bunch of plugs that are too small for my ears now, i'll be sure and boil them before I give them to him.

I don't think linking them would be a good idea since they require captive beads to do that. :)

I make Macrame bracelets too and I make him his own so he can chew on them. I might just make a bunch and time them to his cage, lol! Takes a while to make just one though, we'll see.

Mm... I just lost my Tiffany's necklace to Meiko. Tucked it into my shirt and had him on my shoulder. All of a sudden I feel him playing with it, go to take it off, and just as I'm grabbing the clasp it goes limp... Little devil broke it just as I was taking it off... I thought my boyfriend was going to kill him (their relationship is a work in progress), he got it for me for Christmas this past year.. Luckily, he wasn't TOO upset...

Macrame? How do you go about making those anyway?

related topic: I get a lot of Auggie's toys from a hardware store.

Why spend tens of dollars (or more) on toys they'll ignore - a couple 50 cent quick-links or odd hardware is much more fun.

I would be afraid that letting him play with one might encourage the idea that they are ALL toys, including the ones attached to mommy! lol

lol same here but with saying that i tell all my guests to de-bling if nuts out:D

an auggie been thinking of gettin some stainless steel chains etc from B&Q

Tori does the same thing with my earnings. I usually just put my hair in front of them and he gets distracted by preening on that. He also plays with my necklace sometimes, but it's on a cord and he usually just moves it around so I'm not especially worried about that.

spammers attack!

Though on the actual topic... beanies. Buy one that is big enough to fit over your ears. Thats what I do :D Or I wear a hoodie. Because Im sick of taking all my piercings out lol

I'm afraid I have to take all my earrings off before I get Jasmine out to play. I do leave my rings on and shes learnt no to bite those

Houdini pulls my nose bone out and I fight to get t back every time. Also he chews my freckles OFF my shoulder. Lil scabs all over them! And chichi tries to eat my tattoos! Lol

I had a looong 'fight' with my sun about who really owned the 10 earrings I have in my ears.... after 5 months it finally started to get better and she sloooooooowly stopped to chew on them constantly, though she still tries it from tome to time (but I think its just a ''hey play with me, don't ignore me when I'm in your shoulder!'' thing).... the biggest problem now are my glasses... most of the time I wear contacts, but from time to time I have glasses on and she is always trying to get into my face and munch on them  and those were really NOT cheap! so this is the reason I never wear rings/necklace/watch/long earrings at home.... well and there is the tattoo as well....

Actually I would not give him any earrings. Doing so will only encourage him to chew/play with all earrings due to association. If you have a friend who wears earrings and apple is being held by them than Apple is likely to go after their earrings. It's like I don't let my birds chew on my glasses. Even If I had a spare pair of old frames lying around I would not give it to them because they would still associate those glasses with the ones on my face or anyone else's face.

Our mitred conure removed a mole from my mother's neck. She felt a slight pinch, and it was gone. She went to the doctor to have it checked out, and the doctor said the bird had done a good job. lol

Jewelry is one of those art forms that had previously been lumped under the designation “craft,” which you all know I hate, or decorative arts (not much better). The consideration of jewelry as fine art began during the Art Nouveau movement.

2 years later. No more jewelry pulling or snagging. Lol! Well it stopped a long time ago with training. No he only preens my hair and eyebrows. :)
