Budgie Rescue in Progress

Cora seems to have gotten injured since I brought her home. She flew around the room and at one point she fell behind my dresser. She got out but she's on the floor of her new cage unable to perch.
I feel so bad about this. She was fine when we got her and now she's struggling to survive.
I'm keeping her covered tonight hoping she won't die tonight.

Cora is on the cage floor at 4:30 am. I've checked her all night and she was in the shallow wide food dish for part of the night. I'm going to move her to a bin set up today so she doesn't try to climb around while she hopefully heals.

I'm very upset about rescuing Cora only for her to get hurt within hours of arriving here. Her new cage is in our bedroom only a few feet from the bed. I didn't sleep at all last night worrying and checking on her and had a low light on all night so she wouldn't get too disoriented in the dark. I hope she's strong enough to heal. I don't know if taking her to the vet is the thing to do. I don't want to put her down. Help! Please advise me.

The vet would do an xray and probably tell me to just put her down but I know budgies can heal from broken bones. She must be in pain. This is so terrible.

I think a budgie leg is hard to splint. If the break is the upper leg bone (femur) it's impossible because it's inside the pelvic area.
I'm so upset, overwhelmed, and exhausted by this. Every time I look at her I cry.

Sorry to hear the new budgie got hurt. I’m surprised people were able to catch her. I feel like the smaller parrots fly so fast, and can turn on a dime.

She is beautiful

Agree. Sorry to hear about the injury. Hoping for the best.

She actually went into the cage I gave them.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear she isn't doing well :( I hope your vet has some good advice for you.

You have to see this vets' brand new office/animal hospital. There are two avian vets, father and son, plus other vets. It rivals any doctors office I've been to. They have i house imaging and ultrasound and beautiful exam rooms. I just dropped her off to pick her up later after dr examines her and calls me.
