I accepted two elderly cockatiels into my care. Zesty is a lutino who is likely over 15 years old. He can't stand or climb anymore, but she is still a feisty little thing. Her roommate (they're friends but not bonded) is Cinder, a 15-year-old pearl. A rat bit off her toes when she was about a year old, so she needs special perches to help her.

I want to make them more comfortable. Cinder perches okay as long as she has a good, solid foundation to grip. Food and perches can be high up for her. I'm using plastic bowls with these guys because they find it easier to get around. My major concern is Zesty, as she really struggles to get around and needs help getting from point A to point B if it doesn't require flying. And I need to make a cage switch with Vortex, who's got a cage higher than the older girls' current cage. Less likely to fall when my dog (Bless her balding, 14 pound heart:cautious:) goes a bit crazy when the girls flap. I have flat perches and bowls close to the bottom of the cage for Zesty. I have a wire shelf wrapped with vet wrap, too. The only real problem I have with Zesty is that she tends to crawl through her poop often and needs a cleaner cage than usual. That includes the vet-wrapped shelf. Which is a BEAR to clean. Maybe I'll just buy an industrial-sized container of Vet Wrap and see how that works for the girls. Heh.

Considering the situation, what would you add or subtract in a situation I'm in? Anything I can use to avoid poop-decorated Vet Wrap?

TIA!

First off......Kudos for taking in these 2 girls! My Tiel is handicapped also and he too will sit, slide etc thru his poop. I put down paper towels in his favorite spot. I don't know if that will help?🤗
