Cockatiel weight loss

He looks wonderful. I hope you can get him to eat. I am new to Cockatiels. I just took in my dad's 20 year old Tiel. A little boy. Good luck.

Have you tried using a food processor to grind up fruits and vegetables for him?

Yes you can soak the pellets for him to eat, just make sure you replace it often as it can go bad rather quickly. Perhaps try some baby formula? How long have you had him??? I would love to see a picture of him.

You can also use a spice/coffee grinder for seeds and small pieces dried fruits and veggies. I grind up my tiels goldenfeast fruit and veggie mix because some of the pieces are a little to big for him to chew up.

A spice/coffee grinder is around $10 to $20.

I use goldenfeast goldn' obbles pellets and they make them in teeny tiny balls, sufficient for a tiel to eat, or again, use the spice/coffee grinder to make them into a powder you can put in food.

Corkeys weight is back up to 87gm, eating seeds and very little else ...

Corkey is doing as well as can be expected ... He sleeps through out the day, but he has keep his weight on (89.5gm) today ... he was at 85gm a month ago ... He is asleep on my left hand as I type this ... :-)

Corky is a very handsome senior citizen. I''m glad he's gained back some of his weight. What a lovely fellow. Sending positive thoughts and wishes.

Thanks ... An update his weight goes up and down, but its at 89.6 gm today ...

Took Corkey to the Avi-Vet last week, to get his beak trimmed and to confirm that he has cataracts ... he is almost blind in doth eyes, can only see shapes with his right eye, happened so fast ... it so saddening ... going to the Vet traumatized him, he lost 4.5 gm that day, he has gained some back ... 86 gm today.

Im trying to teach myself not to move his water and food around. not sure what else I can do for him ... except love him and care for him.

Before the Vet visit ...

Thanks everyone ...

Oh, poor little guy. I'm so sorry!!

You did so much for him; really, you were the best parront ever!!

And I'm sure it meant so much to him that you were there to comfort him. It sounds like despite the fluctuating weight, the end of his life was pretty comfy and he was always surrounded with love.

I hope I can be as good a bird owner as you have been and have the good fortune to give my bird(s) such long happy lives. So sorry you had to say goodbye, but I'm glad Corkey had such a kickass life for a cockatiel!!

thank you ...

RIP Corkey ...

Thanks Colorguarder ...

I'm so sorry to hear... Corkey really had a very long life. He was fortunate. No doubt your love and care helped. Beautiful memorial photo of him.
