We're concerned that in some countries the level of political commitment & the actions that demonstrate that commitment don't match the level of the threat we all face. This is
NOT a drill
NOT the time to give up
NOT a time for excuses
This is a time for pulling out all the stops

Re: Wuhan virus

Medical professionals , and the actual new name of this virus is
SARS-Cov-2
Sever Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus #2

Maybe they just don't want to say tht on the news.
If it effects as many people as seasonal influenza, and you take the annual deaths from that , we could see

SARS-CoV-2 has a 2% fatality ( now saying 3.5%) 20 times that of the flu, we could be looking at
1,538,300 deaths!!!! Plan for the worst.....sure hope that's not how things play out...

" What does this illness look like? I’ve heard some people compare it to the flu.

No, it’s different from flu. It’s a lung disease, not a stuffy nose disease. Ninety 90 percent of people get a fever, 80 percent get a dry cough, and then it drops down to 30 percent get shortness of breath and malaise – you know, being tired. "

I felt that it is very important to Post the above again as it continues to become clearer that 'WHO' (not the band :D) is lagging behind in what this Virus really is and the implications of its abilities. Lots of platitudes, but also swimming against the current in international politics. After all, don't want to upset any one country...

CDC is a bit closer as they are, to some degree, better 'connected' (?) into the research organizations and what those folks are defining as the classification of this Virus

National News Media is way behind and appear to be totally befuddled by what all the different names suggest regarding what we are facing. Far to interested in the happenings in Washington DC.

And clearly, the States need to get on the same page! I see that California just jumped into the feedbag and issuing a State of Emergency to get their hands on the 8.3 billion that Congress is moving on. Why spend their money when they may get it from the federal government. I truly hope that there are controls on what that money is to be used for...

Back to the staring point, this Virus is called:

SARS-Cov-2
Sever Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus #2

Re: Wuhan virus

Well darn! I have a fever......
I was exposed to shingles which still sheds low levels of the virus that causes chicken pox, which I haven't had.... .I guess I hope it's that.......as I do have a dry cough started this afternoon.....
So many other things going around, but not something I want to be worried about...

Re: Wuhan virus

Is Fort Detrick United States Army Medical Command going to get involved.

They have been simulating bio-war and countermeasures for a long time.
CDC has a lot of horsepower but for boots on the ground support Fort Detrick might be better set up.

I honestly haven't heard anything regarding our Military. So, this is all a guess based on past deployments.

They are likely in the loop and are looking at asset allocations. At present, likely around the current location(s) of the boots and equipment, there has been no call-ups, but likely increased training for staff on containment processes, stores adjustment and equipment for this Virus.

When will they get involved. First, they cannot be deployed 'in country' until requested by the States. With Californias issuing a State of Emergency, they have completed step one, but the Governor needs to specifically request deployment of 'first' the national guard and second the military. But, understand getting that second release commonly requires a National State of Emergency being issued.

Re: Wuhan virus

“I think the Seattle area in Washington state is potentially on the cusp off being a Wuhan 2.0,” cautioned Dr. Ding, epidemiologist, health economist, and nutrition scientist at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health.

Epidemiologist Dr. Eric Ding spoke with KIRO Radio’s Gee and Ursula Show, stressing the need for massively increased safety measures in Washington state.

Re: Wuhan virus

I have my new Coronovirus plan, see attachments.

(actually this was taken tonight at my OSHA HAZWOPER ammonia refrigerant leak responder training. Yes that's me in the airtight suit breathing with an SCBA.)

But after we donned everything the four of us went into the cafeteria (because why not) and we did freak a LOT of coworkers out! Because you see that suit and you're just a machine operator are you going to think ammonia, or what you see on the news..... Yeah it was fun lol.

Re: Wuhan virus

Noted that Washington State issued a State of Emergency yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. With the outbreaks they are experiencing, it's clearly the correct thing for them as Washington State has a clear and present danger and needs the help.

Re: Wuhan virus

3 cases confirmed in the county where my soon-to-be 67 year old mother lives. I don't like this. My in-laws live nearby as well, but not in that same county.

I hope you feel better soon, Laura. Take some cold-eeze. Those things are nasty but apparently work pretty well to help beat colds etc. Get lots of rest, drink plenty of clear fluids, electrolytes. Rest rest rest, but also some light excersize.

Re: Wuhan virus

Thanks Bug! I'm taking Zicam, seems to help, I feel better during the day worse at night. I'm staying away from people, just staying home, so not to spread what ever crud I got.

Scary that cases are getting closer to you and yours . I'm in a triangle, with cases 200 Miles away to the north, south and West....

The world cases have gone from a few hundred a day to close to 4,000 a day for now. 96 of 195 countries in the world reporting cases, most activly climbing . Other countries officials are calling this a world pandemic now, and saying to expect global supply chain disruption in the near future ( weeks? Months? )
This is moving faster than I initially thought it would. Hopefully it will be very mild for most of us.

Re: Wuhan virus

Airports are at about half their usual Friday travelers...kind of pleasant.

Still no masks and no noticable sick people though more hand/seat washing

Re: Wuhan virus

" This is a difficult message to share, but it is important to recognize how difficult the times ahead may be and how you must now take assertive action to prepare for them. Our local situation surrounding novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is changing rapidly. COVID-19 is spreading in our community, the extent of which is unclear. It has likely been spreading for weeks, perhaps months. I have no reason to believe that how it’s spreading in other counties won’t be replicated to some degree here. We now all need to take assertive actions to inhibit the spread of this new virus. Some of those actions are described below. I advise that individuals, schools, business, and all other sectors of our community take immediate steps to change behaviors and take definitive action.

Our lives will be significantly disrupted by the measures needed to respond to a global pandemic. A pandemic is a global occurrence of an infectious disease. A pandemic is a disaster with unique characteristics. The two most important differences between a pandemic and other disasters are that the whole world is going through this disaster at the same time, and people may become fearful of other people. The current COVID-19 outbreak clearly has the potential to turn into a severe pandemic.

County Health continues to work with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our state and local partners to manage testing and monitoring of persons who have been exposed to COVID-19. But our focus is rapidly changing from a containment strategy (identifying cases and contacts) to one of community mitigation—taking steps to lessen the broad impact of the disease. County Health and our public and private partners are taking steps to increase our ability to respond and are planning for a sustained response to COVID-19.

How the world operates during a pandemic is different from how the world operates normally. This is not business as usual. With a pandemic comes significant disruption to supply chains (the process of how things get from where they are made to where they are used), transportation, and travel. Even if the disease is not rapidly spreading in our area, we may face difficulty obtaining the goods and services we are accustomed to, public events may be canceled, and our ability to travel might be restricted. Re: Wuhan virus

Not close to Hubbs and I---yet. We live 500 miles away from the DC area now, where my mom and Hubbs' dad, mom, and their current spouses live. We still as far as I am aware, oly have around 100 in isolation in our state. But these things move fast.

The 3 in Montgomery County MD attended public events. Their governer is calling it "concerning" contact with the public. They went to an event in philly(aand interacted with school aged children and staff) and then went to an event at a senior center in THE VERY SAME TOWN where my mom lives!! some schools in PA are closed because of these possible exposure events. Thank God my mom has been avoiding public events, but it still is probably about to tip off in the DC area. I don't like this. We lost my dad in 2014 and my mom is alone in Rockville, MD. What if they lock the area down? My 67 year old mother might be in quarantine lockdown ALONE? Nearest family for her is us, or my brother in Chicago.

M phone is doing weird things again. Please forgive typos

Re: Wuhan virus

Well well well Florida had been hiding cases!

I told you individual state health department could decide not to release positive cases before.

Well Florida has had 6 positive cases for awhile now!!! They continue to hide theses cases by not sayings what county or town they are in!

These are not counting the cases of community spread that we just detected s few days ago.

" Florida public health officials are also reporting 12 positive cases: Six are Florida residents, 5 are Florida cases repatriated and one is a non-Florida resident."

That's scary when they start hiding cases. Spring and Summer are coming so they are more concerned about tourism and tourist dollars. For shame!.
