COVID-19 Virus

Re: Wuhan virus

Alas we have broadcast and only 2 channels hosted it. Both cut away after Trump stepped away. 1 of those 2 channels we don't even get half the time. :/

I said the Tuesday thing because my aunt had mentioned Tuesday and I assumed she knew more than I did on it.

Fully understand the limited access thing. The Tuesday statement was from the National News person's 'statement /question.'

Majority of NYC’s coronavirus cases are men between 18 and 49 years old
https://nypost.com/2020/03/20/major...us-cases-are-men-between-18-and-49-years-old/

Fauci was responding to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which, after studying more than 4,000 cases in the U.S., showed that about 40 percent of those who were hospitalized for the virus as of March 16 were ages 20 to 54. Among the most critical cases, 12 percent of intensive care admissions were among those ages 20 to 44

Meanwhile dozens of spring breakers have tested positive..

Re: Wuhan virus

Well, last night at about 9 pm (2100 dark for Scott) EST, our Governor used the Rapid Alert/Response System, which sends an Alert to all mobile phones in Michigan a notice that she has set in place a Stay At Home requirement for the next three weeks.

Understanding that we are already halfway into our first three week required shut down of all Food and Drink establishments, Schools, etc...

This to assure that much needed Hospital equipment is available when needed, since Michigan has not been receiving as much stuff from the Federal Government as needed. Oh, that right, Michigan can and should go out into the Market and purchase such things like normal...

Yup, we have a first year Governor that has not come to realize that our State can do that and not have to rely on the Federal Government to do everything for us.

With hope, our Governor will watch New York's Governor to see how its done!!!

The joys of training a new Governor...

Meanwhile most tests are taking five days to report results. Virus has a four day doubling rate in the populations!

We need that rapid test now....

Coronavirus response act takes effect April 2, expands FMLA and paid sick leave requirements

March 23, 2020 News and Announcements
Download Mail Share

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act, phase II, which will provide paid leave, food assistance and tax credits to individuals in the U.S. affected by the novel coronavirus, passed the Senate March 18 and was signed into law the same day by President Trump.

Beginning April 2, H.R. 6201 will require employers with fewer than 500 employees, with some exceptions, to provide 12 weeks of protected leave to eligible employees who are unable to work, including telework, because their child’s school or place of care has been closed or their child care provider is unavailable due to a public health emergency. The new requirement, which amends the Family and Medical Leave Act, will expire Dec. 31. The 500-employee threshold under the emergency FMLA is a significant change from the current FMLA threshold of 50 or more employees.

Health care providers, which may include dentists, and small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, may be exempt from the new provision. Exemptions would be granted by the Secretary of Labor, who will likely communicate those guidelines, and how businesses may request an exemption, prior to the law taking effect on April 2.

Covered employees and pay calculation under emergency FMLA

Any employee who has been employed for at least 30 days is eligible for the new leave entitlement under the Act ― a significant change from the required 12 months and minimum 1,250 aggregate hours under the current law.

The first two weeks of the employee’s “emergency” FMLA leave may consist of unpaid leave, but the employee may choose to substitute any accrued, unused vacation, PTO or paid sick leave benefits for the unpaid leave. The remainder of emergency FMLA pay must be provided by the employer. Therefore, a covered employer must provide at least 10 weeks of qualifying paid emergency FMLA leave to a covered employee.

The remaining 10 weeks of paid leave must be at least two-thirds of an employee’s regular rate of pay of the last six months and reflect the number of hours an employee would otherwise be normally scheduled to work. The paid leave is capped, however, at $200 per day and $10,000 in the aggregate.

Emergency paid sick leave

Also beginning April 2, all employees are eligible for paid sick leave under the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act, regardless of the length of time they have been employed. Employees are not required to first use other available paid leave before using paid sick leave under the Act. This leave is in addition to any paid sick leave, vacation or PTO currently provided by employers. An eligible employee may take paid sick leave if they are unable to work (including telework) due to one of the following six reasons:

The employee is subject to a federal, state or local quarantine or isolation order related to COVID-19.
The employee has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19.
The employee is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and seeking a medical diagnosis.
The employee is caring for an individual who is subject to an order or quarantine;
The employee is caring for a son or daughter of such employee if the school or place of care of the son or daughter has been closed or the childcare provider of such son or daughter is unavailable due to COVID-19 precautions.
The employee is experiencing any other substantially similar condition specified by the Secretary of Health and Human Services in consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury and the Secretary of Labor.

Who warns United States will become the new epicenter.

- Rapid Test sets going out to Hospitals starting this week Wednesday. Hot Spots get greatest number and on top of the list.

- Home Test product in finial testing and should begin lager scale manufacturing next week.

- Change in Government Law, All labs must report results of testing.

- South Korea began letting Small Businesses reopen this week. Larger Organizations to remain close.

Re: Wuhan virus

And, the joy in Michigan continues today as the Lawyers where lined-up (social distance of course) to get clarification of what and who is not allowed to work today and forward. Seems that tons of important 'needed' stuff was closed by our Governor's Executive Order. Updates coming..........hopefully!

State Police Statement: We will not be stopping and questioning individuals or visiting organizations that are open....

And, the fun goes on...

By the way, we still have the worst roads in the country!
Drunks in my city are noted as those cars driving in a fairly straight-line as everyone else is avoiding the potholes! :D

Re: Wuhan virus

I am so worried for Florida!!!
We are at 1,600 ish

Yet to feel the impact of massive spring break
New Yorkers fleeing new York by the thousand on packed flights.

Governor order self quarantine for all New York New Jersey flights

Reporter there to interview those coming in from New York flights, all the people questioned stated they weren't coming from New York. Reported checked gate and flight , confirmed they were all coming in on new York flights.... reporter said seems people have trouble telling the truth...
Then asked what they think about self quarantine orders from Governor. Only two gave answer, said they can't be told what to do. One woman age appeared between ,20-30, claimed her age group doesn't catch the virus or get sick!!!!

Florida needs shelter in place orders. I think we are going to be in big trouble....

Please note the thread title has changed to COVID-19 Virus. (your presence suggests you already know!)

After consulting with various members, a decision was made to remove reference to location and focus on the medical terminology best describing a global scourge.

What has not changed is the scope, outpouring of concern, and exchange of information. Please continue to post as usual, however if anyone wishes to dispute the name change, PM me directly!

Naw, was time to change the thread name. When started that was the name, but we all understand no people or place are to blame.

Florida national guard now at airport, to track and I form travelers if new orders .

Hope you guys can get a smile from this. I mean in no way to take away from the severity of the situation.

National Guard is deployed in all 50 states.

The humor is truly great!!!
Had me laughing deeply and enjoyed the moments!!!
THANK YOU for Posting the Humor....

Another case in my small county, the state is up by 39 cases from yesterday. Totalling at least 163 cases. One had been to a "Corona virus party". I shudder to think of what that means. No new deaths thankfully. 4 have fully recovered. Non profit organizations told not to accept donated goods.

All "non-life-sustaining businesses" must close by the end of Thursday. Ag counts as "Life sustaining".

The UK has just gone into lock down, has the US yet? It appears to be doubling in cases every 3 days so this very quickly means everybody has it within 2 months, do the maths....

I dont know how serious everybody is taking it in the US, but as for the UK it seems maybe 20% of the population where very dismissive of it up until last weekend but the last 24hrs it seems to have got EVEYBODIES attention and everybody seems to be doing the 'lock down'. Do not leave your house unless you are buying food or medical provisions and then as infrequent as you can. Do not socialise at all, AT ALL.... unless you are at least 6ft from the other person. I have not ventured out of my house border for 3 weeks now apart from shopping, im working from home too.

Unless EVERYBODY gets a grip on this, we are going to be in a very bad place, and very very quickly.

We have National Health Service (NHS) which is free for all apart from dentistry, and we also have private BUPA type companies, they are joining forces to counter this. Retired medical staff are coming out of retirement to assist too.

The scary thing is, we are 2-3 weeks behind Italy and they are totally over whelmed with the Virus.

So peeps, please please please self isolate now.

Scary.
