I am considered an essential worker and have been going in to work every day.
Traffic has remained light.
If my company told the workers to go home and then not get paid the people would be up in arms.
When the company tells them they need to report to work the workers get upset cuz the company doesn't care about there health.
No win situation.
For the UK, we HAVE to work from home where we can. My GF works in a factory making very high end furniture, she cuts the leather so cant work from home. The government are sending everybody home and paying 80% of the salary upto £2.5K ($3K pcm).
Some companies where staying open for the first few days, the government have moved in and shut them down.
Caveat, if you are an essential worker and you cant work from home, this means working in a grocery store (pet groceries included) or health worker, police etc, then you should work as normal. When non essential staff are away from home, using public transport etc, then they are putting ESSENTIAL workers at a greater risk, therefore totally irresponsible
some other tips.....
Im not sure how well the US has adopted contactless, that is you swipe your card to authorise a payment, so no cash exchanges hands..... and no virus is passed. Using keypads in shops etc is a serious no no, unless again you are wearing gloves. I went for a walk at lunch, im in the country side, i still wore gloves in the heat today, just for those moments where i have to open gates etc.
