I'm having a hard time on picking up on Zack's way of communicating with me (except when he screechs and bites...got those down). Any ideas? I can't tell when he is playing and verbalizing and when he wants attention.

Another question, Zack loves oranges and I limit him to one small slice a day. The question is, I was thinking of giving him a piece if the skin, rind, whatever you call it, to play with, eat etc.? Is there anything wrong with that? Will that make him sick or generally just bad for him?

thanks,

Doug

Watch for eye pinning accompanied by tail fanning and head feather flaring- those are the most common signs a bite will most likely follow lol

Sometimes when they lower their body and slightly put their wings out (looks like he might "take off") usually means "pick me up".

Bowing their head usually means "you may scratch me"

My partner leaves the skin part on and i find them eat the fruit part and toss out the skin on their own.

I'm not familiar enough with Amazons to know how they really act like.

Also, I'm the type that removes the skin when I feed. Wanna clear that part up that i don't feed the skin part but my partner does it....lol

Here are some pictures of Jackie's various attitudes and what they meant for me as his handler.

Notice the pinned eyes, and the slightly flared head feathers- he doesn't like my phone, so if I try to touch him- BITE.

Bowing for scritches...(end scritch sessions before he gets over-excited and you get bit)

Curious/Alert....possibility of getting bit.

I'm fine right here -possibility of getting bit.

Keep in mind that each individual will vary, I hope this helps even if it's a teeny tiny bit.

Good luck!

Thanks all, he was to the point of letting me scritch his head but the past couple of days he has been really bitey....just like he was when he first got here. Also he has been reluctant to take treats from me the past few days. Not sure what is going on, hopefully he isn't sick. I can't afford a visit to a vet.
