My parrotlet Donut is the only bird in our household that doesn't say or mimic a peep. Her personality is very extroverted and lively and she's an adorable troublemaker. Her and I are VERY close and we do everything together. The other two birds aren't completely bonded with me yet, but they always repeat my words and talk to me.. Why is this? I know parrotlets can talk, I've seen it all over.

Does it take parrotlets years to master speech, or is mine just choosing not to talk?

Neither of my parrotlets talk, I really believe it's just like with other species, some will and some won't. She may surprise you one day, too:)

My lovely, feisty parrotlet never spoke a word but we often knew what she was saying! I had her for over nine years.

Large or small some parrots talk others dont seem to master the ability and its the same for parrotlets but it sounds like Donut makes up for not speaking in other ways. Your mischievous Donut could also surprise you when you least expect it like my White Fronted Amazon who doesnt talk did when one day out of the Blue he said Hello 3 times one after the other very clearly, and thats a couple of weeks ago and he hasnt spoken since, so you never know...what words do you try...tic tic for a head scritch is an easy word for a Parrotlet to say to get him started but listen very carefully as they sort of gently whistle talk if you catch my meaning and its almost like a whisper ...at least the one I heard talking talked like that and the first word my friend taught it to say was tic tic giving the bird a head scritch as she said it so he'd know what it meant. But keep in mind that they dont all talk and the same is true for all types of parrots be they big or small.

that's some pretty sound advice, compadre! :D i'll try using more sounds to communicate cause they might be easier! and yeah, i hope she surprises me one day, but even if not, i'll love her regardless! ^.^

i guess it'll just be a waiting game until she's ready! but even if she doesn't, it'll be fine :) thanks for your answer!

i've heard that some birds never speak, but i'm really happy with how her personality blossomed, and i should just be thankful for that! :D thanks for your answer!

Mine has different tweets for everything. They are SO strong willed that it's probably saying why isn't this human talking to me!? Lol!

Keep in mind how small they are, too. Any talking will a tiny voice and scaled down from like a amazon or others. Parrolets are not known for talking, but as everyone has said, she might surprise you.
