Not exactly a parrot, but I had to make the heartbreaking decision to have one of my Khaki Campbell ducks euthanized today. I found her struggling in the creek late yesterday. A huge snapping turtle had her by the leg. I rescued her from the turtle but her leg was a mess. x-rays at the vet today ( soonest they could get her in) showed her lower leg and foot were crushed, compound fracture, with massive soft tissue injuries. Amputation not really a humane option with a duck. They need their legs. Dolly was only about a year old, an adorable, funny little duck and a great egg layer. It was so hard to make the decision to put her down even though I know it was the right one. At least she passed peacefully in my arms and not in pain and fear in the jaws of a turtle. Her loud quacks and cute little face with be greatly missed on the farm.
