Hi guys & gals -
Do any of you have experience with an Eclectus & a GCC in the same household?

We have had our little Green Cheek for a couple years now and have been so happy with him. We have learned so much about parrots in the process and continue to do so.

We've been considering getting another bird, and would prefer to rehome one in need rather than buy new from a breeder.

An Eclectus has recently been posted on Craigslist in my area, and we are interested.

My concern is not about us or the Eclectus - I am confident we could work together. I am worried about how a larger bird would fare with my GCC, though.

Of course I'd have separate cages for each, but I want to avoid a scenario in which the birds hate each other. My Green Cheek is pretty headstrong, as they tend to be, and I think he may try to assert himself - which could be a big problem with a larger bird.

I know every situation is different, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any anecdotal evidence.

My experience was the gccs ferociously attacking the eckies at every opportunity.

It may not be that way for you, but it’s never a good idea to get a second bird unless you want that bird even if the two can never be out at the same time for the rest of their lives.

Honestly, you never know how the two of them will interact until they do. Birds are just so varied and distinctive in their personalities that there's just no predicting.

That said, such a size difference would always require supervision... even if they get along famously. You just never know.

Here is a link to a thread I did about introducing a 2nd bird that you might find helpful if you do decide to go that route: http://www.parrotforums.com/training/74214-introducing-second-bird.html#post714358
