B&G Macaw
Hi all, I went to the pet store tonight to see and feed my new B&G. He is on two feedings so I went to feed him his dinner. This was the first time I have ever fed a baby parrot so I was a little nervous at first but caught on to it pretty easy. I also learned a great deal by this experience. I have to say it was hard to leave. I hate leaving my baby there! He's in/on a cage in the middle of the store! In just the short time I was there every person that entered to tore came over to see him/her. I know I know how could anyone help but going over but I just wanted them all to back up and back off. Selfish I know but I couldn't help it. I'm thinking all kinds of things like did that person wash there hands before trying to touch MY bird?, did that mom really let her 7 year old run over and try to grab onto the bottom of the cage? Wtf! I just want to bring Nemo home.

I would ask the owners to possibly move him?? Or put up a do not touch sign?

They do have a sign that says not o touch him but from what I noticed it really didn't do much. I did ask if the could move him into the back but she said they couldn't because its not heated. I think he's bringing in a lot of people so it suites them to keep him right where s/he is. I'm just kind of scared that someone might do something that would hurt him or freak him out.

I think it might be good for him to be exposed to other people from a socialization point of view, but the petstore should be aware that the bird is sold, and supervise any interaction...

Congratulations on your beautiful bird...

Thanks or your posts. I am sure Nemo will be ok, I'm just a little over protective at the moment. I just want my cage and playset to get here so I can go get Nemo and bring em home. I really like the store owners, they have always been great to me. Just anxious.

Oh wow he is SO cute, I wouldn't want to leave him there either! It probably is good for him like Lene said for the socialization, but I totally see where you are coming from.

I can't wait to see more photos when you bring him home!! Congrats!

I feel sorry for you. I bet its like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. on one hand you want him to be well socialised and on the other you don't want them to be touching him as he is your bird not theirs. LOL.. I totally get and would feel the exact same. Hopefully you can get him home soon. How long do you have to wait? :)

If it was me, I would of taken him home already. YES it is a good idea to let him socialize with other people, BUT it is also a bad idea IF someone that has birds at home that are sick and then they come to the shop to visit the birds, all it takes is just a touch and it can be on their clothing. Same thing if the shop have other birds....I'm weary with stuffs like that but that's just me....
