Just made an appointment for next Wednesday at the vet to get Maui the sun conure sexed! We have been calling Maui a "he" for the few weeks we've had him, but everyone seems to think Maui is more of a female name. 
We'll see!
$55 to have the vet do it. Kind of pricey, but I don't have the heart to pluck his feathers!
Still working on training.. I'm new here so none of you are familiar with Maui or his story, but he is a rescue. We don't know much about him besides awful things. He was fully flighted but was never allowed out of his cage. He was not given perches besides by his food - it took him 3 days to learn how to properly sit on a perch. Yes, he even slept clung to the side of the cage at night. He had wounds on his face from rubbing and knocking his head against his previous cage like a prisoner. They're healing & he is getting new pin feathers which is exciting. He is just now learning "step up" but it is a work in progress. He is the sweetest bird and just wants a friend!
