Green Cheek Conure showing bald spots

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. Recently I have started noticed my green cheek conure who is age 7 has developed these bald spots under his right side of the neck and right wing. the skin does seem a little itchy and very red. I am going to the vet but just wanted to prepare myself by asking you guys first!

Get him tested for PBFD (it's a blood test separate from a CBC). I would also encourage a CBC and possibly a vitamin panel. Skin swabs could also be helpful, although I still think the 1st 3 I mentioned should take priority. Even if he is pulling them out, the feather formation looks odd to me. You may also want to ask about PDD/ABV, as that can also impact feathers to some degree.


It could be yeast/fungal etc...how is humidity in your home? Are you using any chemical cleaners around the home? What about lotions etc that could be getting on him?

I noticed the red skin. ....even the down feathers are missing.

What does he eat?
