So, I've been working on teaching Midori where it's appropriate to poop.. and I have apparently created a monster.
She now refuses to poop in her cage... instead, she will push herself against the bars and projectile it out.....

Advice? x_x

Dont spend too much time standing beside the cage! :D I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. I dont have a clue how to help on this one. I've tried w/Merlin to teach where it is not appropriate to poop, I've had good luck w/that, I was afraid of giving a "poop" command. Right now we are working on him using the b-room sink as a potty chair. This is working 20% of the time, I think once he makes the connection, he will get it. Good luck!

That's a strange one. I've tried to create a routine with my bird. The minute he gets out of the cage I put him on top of the cage where there is a playstand and tell him to poop. As soon as he poops he gets a treat and gets to go for a shoulder ride around the house (his favorite). If he won't go to the bathroom, he goes back in and I try again in 15 minutes.

I don't know if this will help solve the projectile pooping, but at least he'll get rewarded for doing the right thing with this trick. Fortunately, since birds poop all the time, there is always training opportunities. Just try to ignore the bad habits and reward the good ones. Midori will get it soon enough.

She goes on command just fine, and in the morning she will wait for me to get her over the toilet before pooping, then she gets some nibbles of millet and access to my hair (Her favorite).

While she's out, she just poops wherever, I tell her gross in a 'no' tone and put her where I want her to poop and say go poop.. which is accomplishing nothing. :|

I've been ignoring the bad cage behavior, but it's getting a bit disgusting cleaning held bird droppings off the walls and floor.. x_x It's not like her cage is left dirty or anything.

Hey, look at the bright side, you don't have to clean the cage. ;-)

Growing up I had a Macaw that did that and I've never seen another bird do that. It didn't do it all the time but that thing could shoot a mile across the cage, it was crazy. He loved us very much do I don't think it was rebellion.

lmao.... maybe in her mind you are tellin her not to poop in cage! as she thinks the no gross is a compliment?? personally i'd just cover walls an floor in a sheet of news paper till this passes! and as siand above, don't stand clost to cage an you wont have to clean cage

an lmao at 1st visitor that goes up to the cage face 1st :)

LOL. x_x I thought of that up-side myself, haha.
): So your macaw.. he just did it forever?

At least I switched her off the fruitblend, so it's not projectile dye.

No, the Macaw did it on occasion, I'm not sure if it was excited or pissed or what, but he sure as day said i'm gonna Shhhhhhhhiiiiitttt out side the cage when excited, but there was no logic, it was just when ever.

I think it's more personality than anything. Every person / animal is different. :rainbow1::rainbow1::rainbow1::rainbow1: :-)
