Hello mybabyIVAN,
I'm so glad to hear that Ivan seems OK now.
I'm fairly new to this forum but I've had parrots for quite a while. I agree with the warnings from other members concerning the dangers posed by sleeping with one's pet bird. I also understand the challenge and guilt associated with your change of Ivan's sleeping situation for his safety.
One of my Macaws decided his place to sleep each night was going to be on my chest. Even though he's a 3 pound Macaw, there's still a risk of serious injury to him from the roll-over scenario described by some of the members here. And a further risk is present from the potential for me to inadvertently wallop him if I should quickly sweep across (or through) his body while I'm attempting to scratch an itch in my sleep or react physically to a bad dream or something (I don't typically have that problem, but you can never be sure).
I've had this particular bird for 7 years and throughout most of that time, and against my better judgment, I've given in to his insistence -and my desire- allowing him to sleep nestled against my chest every night. Recently I've modified the routine though. What I now do is give him some time on my chest to relax and cuddle with me just before sleep (I make certain to remain awake during this period)... then once he's feeling comfortable, relaxed and secure, I move him to his cage top where he calmly falls asleep. I've tried putting him on a playgym and a t-stand, as well as inside of his cage. But for some reason he tends to become unsettled unless I place him on his cage top. He has a good sleep there every night now, as long as I give him the snuggle time first.
Maybe you can try something similar with Ivan. It worked for my Zaffer.
Best of luck!
