One male Senegal Parrot
Hello,
I have a young Senegal parrot who was prescribed by our avian vet Loxicom Oral Suspension. 0.05mls every time. Twice a day for 7 days. the label says every 12 hours however the vet never verbally said anything about the hours. She only said twice a day for 7 days. and that would be fine except for the fact that, as we all know its back to school season and Im stating school In about 4 days. I wake up for school at around 7:00am and get home by 2:30 - 3:00pm. While my Senegal gets waked up at 10am by my dad and goes to bed at 10pm. (Im the only one my senegal allows to touch him) so that wouldn't match our schedule. Does anyone have any ideas? Im not sure if I give him the medicine when I get home and the 2nd time right before he goes to bed. Im worried he could overdose or something else, just being cautious. I'll probably just call them but I wanted to see what you guys think before a phone call.
Update: I called the vet. She said on school days to just double the amount. So instead of 0.05ml it would be 0.1 ml

Sorry to hear your problems. A schedule is a hospital goal. In home it's approximate. You get as close as possible. You don't want to give it to close. Write down exactly what your schedule is. Look at how close to 12 hours you can get. 9-10 is most for antibiotic you can cheat. Excellent what vet said.

there is a thread somewhere in the forum of macaws that explains a method of administering, particularily when your bird wont cooperate.
the essence of my advice is, or could be, helpful by being able to administer the required dosage, over a longer period, and without your presence.'
Make meatballs, using the favoured nut your bird likes, crushed and include the amount you need to administer to your bird, for a given periodand - administered by the amount of "meatballs" available to him during your absence. Your farther could assist you there? lets say 2mls (example only) every 3-4 hours.
2mls x 3 (if you are away for 9hrs) in the mixture. And the meatballs can be administered how you want accordingly to their severity
Try it - you already know the perameters from useful to harmful.
good luck and let us know whenever poss

Definitely try this! I had to tube feed my CAG for a few weeks. Similar was suggested after a few syringes chewed up. In addition to not cooperating. Mixed dry recovery formula with just enough water to make a paste ball. Added a pinch of almond flour and ground extra fine pistachio and a few small chunks pistachios. Birdie version of licking the bowl clean. Definitely worth a try.
