Nike a Hawk Head Parrot (Deroptyus accipitrinus)
Hello Folks!

I just signed on here. I recently lost my 40 yr old Orange Winged Amazon and now have an older (15-20, not sure exactly as I haven't seen the medical records yet) Hawk Head parrot. We've only had her 3 days but she is a sweetie and definitely likes women much better than men. She goes nuts when my wife walks into the room....me she just tolerates ;) Hopefully that will change.

Looking forward to participating.

Hello and welcome! I'm so sorry for the loss of your Amazon.
Your Hawkhead is gorgeous! What's her name? I have a female Hawkhead named Darwin, who is 23. They are awesome birds:)
So glad you joined us and look forward to hearing more about your new addition to your family!

Hi Terry,

Her (though likely a male) name is Nike (like the shoe). I've decided to call her a her because of the past 40 years referring to my Orange Wing as a female.

She's quiet, very cuddly, petable, talks and kisses and is very laid back. I'm hoping that as she gets used to us she becomes more of a rascal as I miss (some of) the antics of my Amazon. :)

Nike is a great name, very unique!
My Darwin was a breeder for her whole life until she came to us 2 years ago. She was named years ago before they actually did DNA, and says her name so Darwin she stayed:)
She is not nearly as tame as Nike. She will step up occasionally, and every once in awhile allow scritches.
Amazons can get up to their antics, can't they? Again, I am so sorry for your loss, so hard to lose them.

Welcome to the forums, Bill & Nike! :) Great to have you. I am terribly sorry to hear of your loss of your Amazon!

Welcome Bill and Nike! So glad you joined us! Looks like Nike is a real sweetheart.

I'm very sorry you had to say goodby to your Amazon.

Welcome to the forum. I have never had the honor of spending much time around Hawkheads but I love hearing about one that has such a great home and such a great temperament. I'm looking forward to your posts about her. I was sorry to hear about the loss of your Amazon friend. They are amazing companions.

Welcome to the forum!!! Nike is very pretty! They're a real sight to see as you don't see many of them around. I see them off and on at the bird fair. And I'm sorry to hear the loss of your beloved Amazon.
