So i'm new to the bird world. When I was like 9 or 10 I had two Budgies but sadly I was a kid so I didn't do any research and they didn't have the best set-up. They had a straight seed diet because that is what the Petco employee told us to get. And yes they did both die maybe a month after getting them because my parents didn't care to check on the birds at all and left me to do all the work as a 10 year old. Anyways fast forward! I have been doing a ton of research for maybe a month on parrots and pet birds. And my research has led me to the Green Cheeked Conure. I love to watch @ElleAndTheBirds on Youtube and have watched pretty much all of her videos and many more different people's accounts. I know pretty much everything there is to know about Green Cheeked Conures. I joined so I get real info from real bird parents though and I wanna link my shopping list I have made for the bird I wanna get. Please be completely honest If i need to change anything or shouldn't get something. I will link the slideshow. I am also gonna link a perch and toy kit she has on her website so yall can tell me if it's worth the high price.

Looks pretty good from my side of the universe ! The only thing you might want to add is a play stand, and there are lots of ways you can build one yourself out of PVC (HiRedBird on Youtube has the easiest by far to make), or get a screw-on-the-top-of-a-cage type perch from Amazon and build a play stand that way. The downside to that is that it might require. a small hamster cage, but it is worth the portability. I have one for my Pionus screwed to the top of her cage, and she loves to crawl around on the bottom of it and hides behind things.

You can also save money on a cage cover. I used a black bedsheet for decades, until the birds chewed holes in it and it had to be replaced.

Another cost-saving item is paper towel rolls, or a fresh toilet paper roll, strung up on the top of the cage. My Peach Front conure LOVED his.

Do reading here from owners with a variety of experience. Not all work. Each bird has it's own personality. You need to learn body language. You need to get the experts here to explain it. I know what it is but can't explain it very well. Remember a variety of foods. Odd but not uncommon is some birds like to see you eat something new before they will eat it. In the wild its a survival trait. It may help encourage good but hated foods. Bird safe seeds and nuts can be limited treats and rewards for training or doing something special. Play stands are great. Before spending money look on YouTube. There's several people who show how to make great and a variety of stands from PVC. I used one as an idea to keep near cage. Bird had access to food and water in, toys without. Have a variety of toys easy to destroy and harder to destroy. Foot toys are recommended. There's a lot of bird toy companies out there. Look at them for ideas. Keep a box for rejects. Hated today maybe loved in future. It also helps to rotate toys if your bird stops showing interest. If you are going to be gone play music, leave TV, streaming etc for entertainment and prevent boredom. Some birds even develop preferences. Mine is old time B/W comedy and gangster shows. As for cage covers if you have a chewer they will chew. If they want to see they will chew to see. My Grey only allows her sleeping area covered. Cover has to be a light color. Weird but her preference or destruction results. Enjoy learning. It's so much fun.
