The 3 amigos are now 1 year and 9 months old.
It looks like hormones have hit them over the head now.
Popeye the male has been hormonal for a while now (maybe 4 months). He is more aggressive with his father (and cage mate). The get into fights about twice a month and I have to put Popeye in a time-out cage. When I let them out to stretch their wings Popeye thinks any empty box laying around is his personal property and has to be defended. He has never been a very affectionate bird and is less so now. He will step up for me but I can’t pet or scratch him. When I reach into his cage to give him treats he tries to bite me even though he KNOWS I am giving him something good.
Mango is the sweetheart of the bunch. Always wanting to get her neck scratched and never getting tired of it. She has recently started making the noises I have heard Sunny make when she is wanting to mate:07:. Is difficult to describe but they are little squeaky chirping sounds, it’s very distinctive from any other noise they make at any other time.
Angle is/has been wanting scratching as much as Mango. She did not use to be interested in scratching until recently. Now when I reach in to scratch Mango she is RIGHT THERE waiting (not to patiently) for her turn. She has not been making the mating noises but she has less patients for the other girls in the cage. She wants her space and if the other girls (Pinky and Sunny) get too close she will drive them off with a shove of her beak. Angle gets along well with Mango but they both want the other to scratch their neck and each one sits with their head bowed down leaning against each other waiting. Neither one wants to start scratching the other and they get impatient waiting for attention that never comes.:17: Stalemate.
