Off topic question. My Scarlet Macaw likes to scream outside occasionally, especially at other birds. I am in the market for a home and would like to know how much acreage would I need where she can scream outside and it not be irritating to a nearby neighbor. Anyone have any ideas?

Lol. Well, my current neighbors have complained and I would like to avoid that in the future. Regarding my bird, you have no idea the lengths I would go to for cool parrot stuff and fun times...lol.

As much land as possible! I'd say a couple acres of land with equal distance from neighbors on all sides would be okay for outdoors screaming. More is better, but land can be expensive. If you can put up solid fences it would make a sound buffer and give you more privacy. Trees and shrubs around the property would buffer the noise too.
How often does he go outside? Is he in an aviary?

Good luck! Parrot screams and calls are designed by nature to carry FAR! You ight need like 1/2 or 3/4 of a mile from any neighbors house to fully isolate your mac's screams. Try using a compressed air bullhorn and on a street, fire it off and have a friend move away until they cant hear it. I will bet a nickel against a bag a bird seed its 1/2 mi or more.

Neighbors can't expect to have dead silence. Dogs bark. Children yell. Parrots scream. As long as they aren't keeping people up at night they need to tolerate some noise.

She goes outside when it is rather cool and we live in a hot climate. For some reason she does not care for direct sun for extended periods. The African Grey is more tolerant, but not really. The outdoor space now is a screened in porch that is 35-40 feet long and 25 feet high. When the weather is to her liking, then we will fly in the outdoor space and she will scream at anything she sees (squirrels, woodpeckers, and the like). The neighbors hated it and used to burn things to drive us back inside.

I definitely need it. I am not looking for an absolute vacuum , but only a buffer that will allow any reasonable person to tolerate the occasional scream during the day and not call HOA/police or burn items to push the birds inside. The loudest one goes to bed at 6-6:30 pm and makes no noise after that. She also rarely screams during the day, but sometime she gets the itch to let a couple loose for a period of time.

This is exactly what I am aiming for Mrs. DonnaBudgie, or other wildlife calls in the area that get mixed in with my Macaw and to a lesser extent the CAG.

I definitely do not agree with their methods, but I understand the irritation. Which is why I am in search for a little "birdie island". So when my bird is outside screaming I can quote creepy b-list scary movies, "Scream all you want, no one can hear you-mostly." Lol.
