I need a GOOD cage!!

If you are interested we have a very nice stainless steel Animal Environment Macaw enclosure that is H58" x W44" x D28" with height from floor at 73 inches. The Bar Diameter it 1/4" and spacing is 1 1/2" apart. You can go look at it at www.animalenvironments.com/macaw.html

We are asking less than 1/4 of its original cost, and live in Michigan. We prefer to have someone pick it up, but we can ship it at cost. It breaks down quite nicely and I can send pictures if you are interested.

Can I horn in on this thread?
I have just got the insurance cheque for the stolen cage.
So now I am cashed up and about to go out and get the perfect cage.
So, what is perfect for Skippah?
He is never caged so really its just for going to sleep in (something I can cover) and a cage for going outside to get some sun. Can this be the same cage?

Yeah Red, I think that would be fine ... I know that you pretty much let Skippah have the run of the house so a smaller cage for sleeping and going outside should be fine ...

Why not? The cage buying "rule" is get the best cage you can that has the appropriate bar spacing and wing-stretch space you can afford. It's here and now first.

Again, temper my remarks to situation but I had to get a new cage for Keupi quickly. It had to be stainless steel. With the amount of money I was spending for his care, I couldn't afford to go 'to the max' of what I would want to do. The same house which he was in was at my parents (the Grands) and my vet said, ok - do what you can when you can but try to upgrade. The only reason he has a bigger stainless steel one here now is my parents gifted 'him' (hatchday this past April) the money spent on that house towards the purchase of his new one (money I saved). The old one is now there so he has a stainless steel home whereever he goes. (And, I thank them profusely for that gift.)

He's a 50/50 fid - my schedule doesn't allow for set in/out time because work from home but go out for appointments and meetings. Sometimes he's out all day; sometimes in for half a day out for the rest; sometimes it's in mostly. The larger house definitely helps because he can run, jump, swoop, swing, and chill.

Since Skippah is primarily out - get what he's used to and go forth. If there were no problems before there is no reason to think about problems now. House issues, to me, are first about safe metal, bar spacing, and wing space. After that it's about lifestyle - for both parrot and parront.

Hey Red,

I've heard of people keeping their birds in small "sleeping cages". I mean, as small as a cage that you would transport them in. Maybe that's a possibility. Get a sleeper cage and an outdoor cage.

We've tried the whole "move the huge cage outside and back inside, repeat" thing, but my mom got pretty frustrated b/c a) the cats kept getting outside, and b) the flies kept getting inside. So we had to put a stop to that.
