Introducing Yuri! Ona’s New Sister!

I’ve been thinking about getting a black cap for a while now. So today I walked in a new pet store “just to look” and….

She is SO sweet!!! So, everyone meet Ona’s new sister, Yuri!!

She’s a shoulder snuggler!! So gentle and sweet. She will be kept completely separate from Ona for two weeks for quarantine and will get her to the vet!

I think Ona is going to love her!
yay!!! Yuri is such a cute name for her!!

Thank you! It's after a character in Fire Emblem Three Houses. His nickname is "Yuri bird" and I like it :)

Little Yuri is starting to learn her name! I tried out a version of the chant Ona likes for her and I got her to dance a little!! She dances differently than Ona it’s so cute. She made a little laser noise too.

She’s getting more attached to me. She does a little squeak when I leave the room and gets super excited to see me when I walk in.

Today I showed her the sunroom and she loved it!! Similar to Ona she liked the outside birds and “purred” at them. I got her her own backpack and am thinking I could walk Ona and Yuri together with my husband! That way they can maybe get a peek of each other.

Ona actually heard Yuri this morning and it was funny and cute. It startled her. She flew up and then to me and then started doing her excited purr. She definitely knows it was another bird she heard.

Oh I think the dual backpacks is a WONDERFUL idea! Can't wait to see some pics of them out walkies together

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww thanks for that early morning shot of adoreableness!

Tell us what you know about Yuri, like her age, how she was raised, etc. Obviously she was handraised and she must have been handled a lot and well socialized to go to a new home with new parronts and be so sweet and friendly.

So far, not much!! I found her at a local chain pet store and they were only able to tell me very little about her. She had been there for about a month they said. I assume she was hand fed. She was weaned when she came to the store and they didn’t know. They only said “she’s really sweet” and she sure is! Her band says she was hatched in Michigan. That’s all I know unfortunately.

She was born in February of this year.

Sweet stuff! I wait with bated breath to find out if Ona's new pal is male or female :O

Today Yuri decided that when she’s not cuddling against my face that going in my shirt is a good cuddle spot too 😂😂❤️ she fully crawled in there and did not want to get out!

When I tried to get her out she just poked her head up and the result is hilariously cute

This pic should come with a warning, @onamom, cuteness overload alert!!! ⚠️⚠️⚠️

The Rb used to ride around life this, head poking out from shirt! I had a gold chain (necklace) and he would hook his beakie in it, looking like a parrot-pendant. We went everywhere (that was in New Mexico, where people often take their parrots out and about. And when he would suddenly move, people would jump a mile.

Nameliss was/is in love with this position. Nowadays it is a hiding place at vets. We use this location when necessity forces use of mass transit in cold weather. It keeps her reliably warmer then a carrier!

You have to give her a hatchday, I suggest Valentine's Day. I'm sure she was hand fed and obviously handled a lot to be so sweet. Lucky you to have found her at a chain store.

That’s so cute and funny!! I wish I could take them everywhere.

Awww. I can see how it would be warm! She was fully in there and was so cozy she didn’t want to come out.

Her hatch day is Feb 2! 😍 Very lucky indeed. Even though my husband wasn’t too happy about my spontaneous big purchase I knew from the moment I saw her she was the one. I’ve looked at another black cap before that just didn’t feel right. She did immediately and I know to trust that feeling with my animals because it’s never been wrong!

I saw a rescued green cheek conure coming up for adoption the other day and he burrowed into my heart and now I can't stop thinking about him trying to get to me and clinging onto his cage...

Uh oh! That's how it always starts! Maybe you should give him another look ;) So many of my pets have started that way with that feeling 😩 That's how I ended up with 4 (now 3 sadly) dogs and two parrots!

Oh nooo, I noticed last night Yuri is not gripping with her right foot. She's clumsy and keeping it curled and keeping the back toes facing forward instead of gripping perches with it. I'm going to take her to the vet for an emergency appointment ($$$ ugh) just to make sure she didn't hurt it...

What's up with birds' feet this week?! Cora and now Yuri? It's probably just a sprain, but I'm sure you're wondering how and when she hurt her foot without you noticing or hearing her squawk. We just can't watch them 24/7. I hope you have a good emergency avian vet- a lot of people don't- but all they will probably be able to tell you is whether it broken, which seems unlikely. Please keep us posted.

Well it’s not great news. They did X-Ray her and the feet look fine BUT there is a little spec in her stomach of a foreign body she has ingested. They are thinking it could be something metallic and could be zinc toxicity, which can cause nerve issues and lameness. They drew blood to send off for tests to see if that’s it. It’s possible it’s not related and just a soft tissue injury but the zinc is highly likely. Also sent of for ABV test, which I had planned to do next week anyway.

I am very fortunate to have a stellar Exoctic vet nearby and my bird sitter was the vet tech today. Now we just have to wait for results….. my least favorite thing.

She did take her first bath when we got home. She must have needed to wash the vet off. And you can see her little curled foot here too :(

She is acting well and eating lots still. Doesn’t act like she’s in pain or anything.

But I just went through all this zinc stuff with Ona not that long ago! Ugh! They said it’s likely whatever she ate she did so at the pet store.
