Swainson's Lorikeet
Hi,
I am the proud human of Zazoo, a 4-month old Rainbow Lorikeet. I bought him about 3 weeks ago from a pet store (I know I shouldn't buy one from a pet store, but we don't have many rescue parrots in South Africa, as we're mostly animal lovers). I always pop into the stores to see if they're looking after their animals well, and fell in love with Zazoo (his name is from the coloured parrot in The Lion King - I like to name my pets after Walt Disney Characters).

He has been an absolute joy and is very entertaining. I had an African Grey which I got at 11 weeks old, but after 2 years had to give him to my sister-in-law, as I moved to the Middle East, and wasn't allowed to take him with me. I came back to South Africa two years ago, but sister-in-law didn't want to give him back to me, coz he's great company for her African Grey Parrot and we're afraid they might miss each other too much, so since he's in real good hands (and loves his best friend) I decided to leave him with her but had a "hole" in my life. I needed a bird.

Zazoo is a challenge, coz he's messy and requires almost constant attention, but since I stay at home all day on my own (I have a very busy teenage son), he's great company and I have the time to give him the attention he needs and clean up successfully after him. He drives around on my errands with me and loves the music playing, so that he can whistle along and sometimes even dances to the music.

He is so cute, loves to shower, loves to play ball and spends the evening quietly sitting with us watching TV, after he's had his dinner and sometimes his shower (He is mostly attached to my person, and while I prepare his nectar supper, he takes a shower under the kitchen tap). When it's bed time, he loves his cuddle and settles into his cage for the night happily. I give him about 10 minutes to find his night perch and then cover him with a light blanket, and we all go to bed.

I'm excited to have joined this site, and hope that I can learn and share valuable information with other loving parrot humans.
