okay so crowley has been eating zupreem avian total maintenance cockatiel sized pellets since we got him but our bag is now finally running low. should i save the last bits of it to slowly mix into new food so he eats the new stuff or should i just be able to switch it?

he's a really good eater, i mean HE'S EATING LIKE, ALL THE TIME hahah. and making a mess. and he was eating seeds at the petstore when we bought him and he switched right to the pellets with absolutely no problems whatsoever but i don't know if the change in pellets will make him confused or not want to eat... thanks for your time :)

any advice would be appreciated!

It is always best to do a slow transition onto new food. To fast and it can shock the organs.

I have Cameo on several types of pellets along with a large variety of seed, fresh veggies and fruit. So if I run out of one type I don`t have to panic and rn out to buy her food. In the course of maybe two months she was introduced to three types of pellet food and ofcourse she has her favorite but mixing them together really helped. At first she would throw out the stuff she did not prefer and made huge messes but I managed keep replacing that with more of what she threw out until she started to eat all of it. Don`t spoil them to much with only the food they like to eat. Make sure they keep a balanced diet. Just like your kids. They should not eat McDonalds all the time.LOL

If you are changing to a new brand and type of food, I'd mix them together and make the transition gradual. They don't seem to be like horses where introducing novel foods can be risky, but not eating the new food is a definite possibility.

Oh, I always prefer to my birds some pellets and fresh and clean vegetables. Sometimes I gives them some chicken and ants for different taste. But, i don't want to switch on another food the only reason is bird's health.
