Lilo - Female Green Cheek Conure ~ Pal - male cockatiel ~ Pheobe - female cockatiel
Hi, I know I already posted today but I'm really concerned about Poncho. He scratches his nose then starts sneezing. but when he's done, he has snot or liquid on his nose. I cant really afford to do a major surgery so any suggestions would help. I worry about him all the time so maybe I'm just over reacting! Please help.

He'll need to go to a vet, sounds like a respiratory infection and a course of meds should clear it up. I highly doubt he'd need surgery, but meds sounds likely.

Meds for small birds are relatively cheap, it'll just be the consult that would cost you I imagine. :)

I doubt it's just dust unless he's living in a very dusty area because once he's 'sneezed' it out, it'll be done with and no more itching or discharge. Sounds more chronic, so more likely an infection which will need seeing too asap.

my yellow nape sneezes quite a bit....so I would have said it's nothing, don't worry about it. My amazon is healthy as a horse.....BUT the discharge out of the nostril's is not normal...

I didn't think age was relevent for you getting him vet care. But yey, glad your Dad has stepped in. Good luck with the vet clinic!

Your father is a smart man! :)

It's not really a good idea that anyone under 18 years of age to tell other people their age online.

To walk in the door and for a general check up it should be around $40-$80... and if Pancho is sick, meds could be $12-$30+. Usually not too bad.

Birds do tend to sneeze more often after taking a bath if they got water in their nostrils. Birds also have boogers, so some amount is fine. It certainly doesn't hurt to take him in and make sure he's healthy just in case he's got a light infection!
