Please don't respond by just saying paper is best, I'm well aware of the prevailing opinion.

I'm looking for something to use as a cage liner that is washable and reusable. I picked up some slate tile at the local hardware store the other day that was both cheap, and looks good in my baby's cage. I haven't actually put in yet though because this is my first bird (green cheek conure) and they seem to have so many sensitivities I just wanted to make sure it's safe. I like the idea of using tile because I can just remove a single tile and wash it when needed.

Thanks.

April Kiwibird makes her own cage liners. Cloth so she can toss them in the washer. I use beach towels around the cage and under playstand for same reason.

Welcome to the Forums. Maybe someone will come along soon that knows about Slate Tile

I can't imagine why slate would be toxic. It used to be used in fish aquarium bottoms years ago. If it's not toxic to fish, I would assume it's not toxic. Is it glazed? Could the glaze be chewed off? Parrots like to chew. If I just had one bird, I would use April's washable liners. Those look great. Welcome to the forum.

Just an observation in that it chips very easily so probably will not last that long and if your bird is a bottom of cage type then he may have a go at picking bits off. Harmful?
