Met a Patagonian...

Conures in general are some of the loudest parrots species out there. In some respects, they are louder than macaws.Their shriek can easily give sensitive people a pounding migraine and if not well trained, they can shriek that way for long periods of time.

Owning 2 myself, their pitch is blood curdling high. My family and I "deal with it" because we love them to pieces. We have been training them for over a year now and now they have 2 "screaming sessions" a day. 15 mins in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening. Otherwise they just quietly play around.

But just from personal experience...if your husband is not "as tolerant" as you are with noise, I would strongly reconsider to see if a conure fits the dynamics of your home.

Not trying to be that bad guy here with a downer, just trying to look out for the birds future and the serenity of your home. If you think you got what it takes to work with one, then by all mean, get one, they will love you and play with you like there is no tomorrow.

And just to note, i dont mean to sound like I know what your home dynamic is. I dont and ultimately, you know what is best suited for your lifestyle, I am just sharing some of my insight and trying to pass on some knowledge that some people may not consider when looking at conures. No disrespect intended. Have a nice day.

I'll just chime in to agree... conures, and I do believe especially Patagonians, are noise machines! Even with good routines, good behavior modification, and lots of toys and diversions... "blood curdling", yes! I coud add bone-rattling and ear-spitting. I should get a video of the Rickeybird in full throttle!

This is Archie shouting when my husband got home from work - this isn't even at full pelt!
He's our early morning alarm clock too [emoji6]

Man, sounds just like the Rickeybird.
And yeah, imagine that like ten times that loud and maintained for about a half hour! Good morning!!!!
Archie is looking so very much better! You guys are my hero for all that you're doing for him.

Ahhh thank you [emoji4] We love the little old man ❤️

Hey, compared to my 30-year-old, Archie still has time to be a studmuffin!

There is a lesser and greater Patigonian. I've seen I think the lessers before at bird stores. Still they were noticeably larger than a sun.

Oh my dear that is the cutest noise! (I'm just here cooing over that noise now, thankyou so much for posting that!) He's such a handsome boy too.
I love the Patagonian's but I've never met a pet grade one. Definetly a bird i'll be keeping eyes out for in the future.

Patagonians unite! The Rickeybird and I are following Archie's progress. I played that clip for him and he said "OHHHHHH!" I wonder if Archie would get a kick from some of the RB's antics and noises in his 'movie'!

(Yay, this is my 20th post, so I think I can now send private messages!)

Glad RB is enjoying Archie's antics [emoji3]
I've played some Patagonian videos to him and he doesn't seem to know he's one, as he doesn't even flinch!

How silly of me!
Of course they aren't parrots. They're people and they know it.

We have a pategonian who lost her mate while in the rescue. Wasn't sure she'd make it, but since she's been with us she's been happier and eating better. Loud trill when lights go on and off, and she barks back at the dogs.

Thank you for sharing that!!!! I'd love to know what information you have about the pair, and now about her. In all my bird years of ownership, running an Adopt-A-Bird rescue, and learning from various sources, I'm learning more about Patagoniansn here (and meeting more Patagonian owners) than ever before! In case you haven't already, you might want to search this site for PATAGONIAN... you'll be amazed at what pops up!

Wow this post blew up since I was last on! Lol thanks for the info, especially those of you with Patagonians. Regarding the noise, it's a non-issue with me. There is no parrot in the world that can compare to a troop of shrieking monkeys (which I deal with daily at work), so conure vocalizations don't bother me. However, my husband got to handle an RB2 baby at the same store the Pati is at, and that has furthered his desire for an RB2. But it will probably still be a while before we add our next addition due to recovering from the costs associated with our new home. So who knows what our future flock will consist of!

Funny you mention monkeys!
People who aren't parrot-aware often ask me if I have a monkey when they hear the bird over the phone or from the front yard...
He has an impressive OOOOH-OOOOOOH-OOOOOOH-AHHHHH-AHHHHH-AHHH!
