Mickey - Female U2 age unknown. DNA test came back...he is a SHE,

Tinker 12 yr old female GCC

Chiquita 16 yr old Female U2 and Junior 16 yr old Male Grey
Mickey saw the vet this morning, and he is healthy for the most part. I was concerned because he is somewhat thin and doesn't seem to be putting on much weight, although he eats well and we are incorporating more choices into his diet. He weighed in at 610 grams. The vet tested him for worms/parasites, but we won't have results until Thursday.

I explained that we didn't get much info from the former owner as to age, etc, and she feels that he is "quite young", and that we should continue feeding oatmeal twice a day,(he loves oatmeal!) and try to hide the fruits/veggies (pureed) in that for now. Also she recommended adding chicken and eggs if he will eat them. She was surprised that he was "thin" with his preference for seeds, but wasn't overly concerned with his weight at this point.

He also got his nails trimmed....he wasn't a fan of that! :D

He was so lovey with her and the trainees (4 of them) I can't believe the former owner advertised him as "mean" :white1:

I'm glad it went well and I hope Mickey gains the weight he needs soon.

Birds are mean to people who don't like them or treat them right. Sometimes a "mean" bird just needs the right owner, which is apparently you:)

Thank you! That actually made me tear up!

I worry so much about my little guy, and I hope I can do all the right things for him! He is so sweet and really deserves the best, I feel so bad that he had to go through anything bad in his life.

Very glad for you that all went well, he sounds like a sweety to me :)

Now that he is loved and getting good care, he will flourish like my Petey has. Well, I can't say Pete wasn't loved; it was obvious he and his previous owner loved each other. The owner was just ignorant about proper bird care, and his cage was much too small and he was on garbage seed and peanut crap from Walmart. All you have to do is take one look at him to see the malnourishment. But, now he plays, is active, eats pellets and other good things, and is looking so much better as well. His feet and beak look healthy now, and the new feathers look good. And today I noticed he is finally getting feathers on the outsides of his thighs where he only had downy ones.

Don't worry, Mickey will do just fine with you taking care of him now.
